The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has stated that the region is ready to host the 41st national farmers’ day celebration slated for Ho on Friday, 5th December, 2025.
Addressing journalists at a joint press briefing and soiree at Ho, Mr Gunu noted that the region’s contribution to the national food security basket cannot be over-emphasized.
Since its inception in 1988, the national farmers’ day celebration has become a cornerstone of Ghana’s agricultural calendar, recognizing and rewarding the hard work, dedication and the innovation of the country’s farmers, fishers and other agricultural workers in the agricultural value chain. It is a day that underscores the fact that agriculture remains the backbone of the country’s economy and a critical pillar for national development.
This year’s national event being the 41st edition, would be held under the theme, ‘Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future’. The organizers say the theme reflects the country’s collective responsibility not only to ensure self-sufficiency in food production but also encourage the consumption of locally manufactured goods. The theme also ensures resilience and sustainable agricultural feature for the nation.
Addressing the media at the oxygen city of Ho, the Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu said extensive preparations are underway to ensure the success of the event. According to him, the Volta Regional Co-ordinating Council (VRCC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), Municipal and District Assemblies and Traditional Authorities as well as other development partners, has already commenced extensive preparations to ensure the successful hosting of the event. ‘
“We are working closely with all relevant stakeholders including security agencies, private sector actors and the media to ensure that our region delivers a well-organized, memorable and an impactful celebration befitting its national importance”, the Regional Minister pointed out.
Mr Gunu noted that hosting the 41st edition of the farmers’ day event in the region is both a privilege and a recognition of the significance of the region’s contribution to the national food security of the country. ‘From our vibrant farmers to our growing agri-business sector, the Volta Region continues to play a key role in feeding Ghana and supporting livelihoods across the agricultural value chain’, Mr Gunu noted.
He highlighted a number of benefits the region stands to gain from hosting such a national event, saying the enormous benefits range from boosting the region’s economy, promoting agri-business opportunities, tourism, culture and local goods promotion, networking and knowledge sharing, to youth motivation and job creation as swell as the recognition of the region’s farmers amongst others.
Mr Gunu used the occasion to extend invitation to corporate institutions, Farmer-Based Organizations (FBOs) and individuals to partner with the VRCC, sponsoring and supporting the event. He lauded one of the region’s business partners, J. A. Horgli and Sons for already supporting the event with an amount of Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis (Ghc50,000). ‘If we work together, we can showcase the best of Volta Region’s hospitality, culture and agricultural expertise. Our hardworking farmers, fishers and processors, this celebration is for you. Your resilience, innovation and unwavering commitment in feeding the nation continues to inspire us all’, the Regional Minister concluded.
Mr. Gunu urged the good people of the Volta Region to actively participate in the event to once again demonstrate the true Volta spirit of unity, hospitality and excellence in welcoming the entire nation to Ho.
During the farmers’ day celebration period, the region is also expected to witness its 24-hour trade and investment fair, scheduled for Wednesday, 26th November through to Monday, 8th December, 2025. The Volta, Oti and Eastern Regional Chairman of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Mr. Dela Gadzanku gave the assurance that his outfit in collaboration with the VRCC and other stakeholders is poised to ensure the success of this event.
He called for support from all the stakeholders in the region to make the event another successful story to talk about.
Mr Gadzanku commended the Regional Minister for his commitment to the development of the region.
He described him as a 24-hour Minister and urged the media to support him and the efforts towards the development of the region. He also urged the media to eschew all forms of banters that can derail the gains of the development of the region.
