Abia State Government has alleged that some members of the opposition in the state are plotting to stoke a division that could destabilize Abia, the South East region and also the cordial relationship between Governor Alex Otti and President Bola Tinubu.

The state government accused a former Commissioner for Information in the state, John Okiyi Kalu, of allegedly recruiting some persons to orchestrate a smear campaign against Governor Otti using social media.

This statement was issued on Sunday morning by the Chief Press Secretary to Abia State Governor, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, who alleged that the destabilization plot was discovered by the state government on a screenshot publication of the former Information Commissioner.

“This ugly development exposes the so-called Abia opposition’s reckless desperation to undermine and destabilize the state and, in extension, the South-East geopolitical zone,” said Ukoha Njoku.

He said that the alleged use of fake news could turn the Federal Government against Otti and the Abia State Government.

The Chief Press Secretary, who said that Governor Otti was not deterred by the alleged desperate plots, added that Otti was grateful to the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government for approving Abia Government’s request for the reconstruction of critical federal infrastructure in the state.

He also said that the governor was appreciative of the Federal Government for approving the upgrading of the proposed Abia Air Strip to an airport, among other collaborations.

But writing on his Facebook page, former Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, cried out that he was being accused of what he knew nothing about, adding that he never authored such an article.

Okiyi’s statement read in part: “For the avoidance of doubt, I do not belong to any WhatsApp group called ‘War Room.’

“The language employed also is not mine, and I completely disown everything in that idiotic script,” Okiyi said.
