Public Accountability and Democratic Reforms Advocate, Ezenwa Nwagwu, has said that Nigerians are in too much of a hurry for the new chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to use any election as a learning curve.

Nwagwu made this statement on Thursday, while responding to questions in an interview on ‘Prime Time’, a programme on Arise Television.

He said that the internal reforms within INEC need to be holistic in terms of the quality of people who will come as Resident Electoral Commissioners.

This comes a few hours after the nomination of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, from the North-Central as the new Chairman of the Commission.

DAILY POST reports that there are off-cycle governorship elections coming forth in Anambra and Osun states.

“I think that for now what needs to happen is to be able to ensure that we have an INEC chairman that understands the challenge that he’s coming to face, especially when the appointment is coming close to some states’ elections.

“There are many no learning curves in INEC. Nigerians are so much in a hurry for you to use any election as a learning curve,” he said.
