Paul Ibe, media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has lamented over the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Ibe said those arrested during the period Kanu was picked up, including former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, activist Omoyele Sowore and Sunday Igboho, have all been released.

Posting on his X page, Ibe said Kanu’s continued detention may be linked to the region he hails from, the South-East.

He wrote: “Atiku Abubakar has been consistent on the Nnamdi Kanu issue. In 2023, he called for Kanu’s release and in 2024, proposed a political resolution.

“In line with his position, he has now backed the Sowore’s #MarchforKanu. It is a patriotic thing to do.

“Let’s assume, but without conceding that Kanu has a case to answer. Does the current sham trial suggest that there’s a serious and fair effort to expeditiously conduct a trial that will render true justice?

“By the way, what crime did others commit that Kanu committed. But other folks – Sabo Dasuki, Sunday Igboho and Yele Sowore – detained about the same time as Nnamdi Kanu have been granted bail.

“Why is Kanu’s case different? May be it is because his name is Nnamdi Kanu, and he comes from the wrong side of our geographical space.

“Meanwhile, we have seen the granting of amnesty to Boko Haram terrorists. Is that not double standards? That’s why a political resolution of the Nnamdi Kanu issue is the only way forward.”
