IGP visits injured officers, deploys high-powered team and reinforcements to Sampa

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has visited the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi to check on a police officer who sustained critical injuries during the recent violent clashes between two rival groups at Sampa in the Bono Region.

The visit, which took place on Tuesday, 7 October 2025, follows disturbances that erupted in Sampa last week, leading to a shootout between rival factions.

According to a police statement, eight officers were injured when their vehicle came under gunfire and veered off the road into a ditch while responding to the clashes.

Seven of the officers were treated and discharged, while one, who sustained severe injuries, was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further medical attention. The officer is said to be in stable condition and responding to treatment.

To assess the situation on the ground, the IGP has dispatched a high-powered delegation comprising members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) to Sampa.

The team is expected to engage the Bono Regional Security Council (REGSEC), traditional authorities, opinion leaders, youth groups and other stakeholders to restore calm and ensure lasting peace in the area.

The delegation will also visit the injured officers who have been discharged and check on the welfare of the operational teams currently deployed to Sampa.

Meanwhile, reinforcement teams drawn from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit and the Formed Police Unit (FPU) have been deployed to intensify patrols and strengthen security in Sampa and surrounding communities.

The Police Administration has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order in the region, assuring residents that all measures are being taken to prevent further violence and safeguard lives and property.
