The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has opened an investigation into the alleged diversion of more than N4bn of state funds to the Dala Inland Dry Port project during the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

According to reports, the money was used for a contract to provide infrastructure for the port shortly after the state’s 20% equity in the company was allegedly transferred to Ganduje’s family in 2020.

The move reportedly removed Kano State as a co-owner of the project and made Ganduje’s children directors and shareholders in the company.

Sources said the contract was awarded even though the state no longer held ownership in the project at the time.

Speaking to journalists over the weekend, PCACC Chairman, Saidu Yahya, said the investigation had reached an advanced stage and was almost concluded.

“So far, some persons of interest have been invited. One of them was arrested and later released on bail after providing useful information,” Yahya said.

“Our findings also show that one of the individuals involved is currently in Yola, Adamawa State.”

He added that the commission had established a prima facie case and that the matter would soon be taken to court once the investigation is completed.
