Hot SourceThe Osun Independent National Electoral Commissioner, INEC, Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Dr Mutiu Agboke has assured voters that their votes will count and that it is the candidate of their choice who will be elected in the 2026 governorship and 2027 general elections.
Agboke gave the assurance while sensitising electorates on the importance of participating in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, exercise at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG Region 43 Headquarters, Osogbo on Sunday.
Describing participation in the CVR exercise as a vital civic responsibility, he urged voters to ensure they collect their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, and participate actively in the democratic process.
He also stressed that it is the only way citizens can influence leadership, cautioning that failure to obtain the PVC and participate in elections could result in unqualified persons occupying public offices.
“The only thing you can do in Nigeria today is to carry your PVC and vote for the candidate of your choice.
“Go and collect your PVC. If we don’t do it, miscreants will be the ones elected into office,” Dr Agboke warned.
The Osun INEC boss maintained that every Nigerian has a duty to support the electoral body in ensuring credible and transparent elections across the country.
“There is a need to support INEC and make your vote count. I am assuring you in the house of God that the election in Osun will be for the candidate of your choice, and it will be free and fair,” he declared.
Agboke advised those yet to register to take advantage of the ongoing CVR exercise by visiting the INEC state office or their respective local government offices to complete the registration process adding that it is a crucial part of INEC’s mandate.
“If you haven’t registered at all, please visit the INEC state office or your local government office, but ensure you register online. Take advantage of the opportunity to register.
“There is a need for proper education. I assured the congregation that any complaints brought before my attention would be promptly addressed,” he said.
He disclosed that Osun State had recorded significant progress in ongoing voter registration, adding that the exercise had positively impacted the state’s political participation.
“Engagement of stakeholders is a continuous process and we cannot choose a better time than now when a major INEC activity is ongoing, and that is why we have to come here,” Agboke stated.
He revealed that the CVR exercise was nearing the end of its first phase and expressed concern that many eligible citizens were yet to take the exercise seriously.
“We will carry the campaign to our major stakeholders. We have visited royal palaces, religious centres like churches, mosques, and market places.
“It is continuous. We have not ended it. It will continue until the end of the entire exercise,” he added.
