The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has sent the names of two nominees to the Kano State House of Assembly for confirmation as commissioners and members of the state executive council.

This was announced in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Saturday.

The nominees are Barrister Abdulkarim Kabir Maude, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) designate from Minjibir, and Dr. Aliyu Isa Aliyu, an Associate Professor of Mathematics.

Barrister Maude, 40, will be formally inaugurated as a SAN at the Supreme Court tomorrow. He studied Law at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and has more than 10 years of legal experience. He has worked in areas including corporate practice, property management, and court proceedings. He previously served as Kano head of chambers at a well-known law firm.

He also holds an LLM in International Economic Law from Maryam Abacha American University of Niger, a Master’s in Business Commercial Law from Bayero University Kano, a BL from the Nigerian Law School, and an LLB (Hons.) from ABU Zaria.

Dr. Aliyu, 41, studied Mathematics at Bayero University Kano, Jordan University of Science and Technology, and Firat University in Turkey, where he obtained his PhD. He began his academic career at Federal University Dutse in 2014 and later became Associate Professor at North West University, Kano.

He has worked internationally as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Sun Yat-Sen University in China and as an Associate Adjunct Researcher at Near East University in Cyprus. Since 2023, he has been Statistician-General and Director-General of the Kano State Bureau of Statistics. Dr. Aliyu is also a beneficiary of the Kwankwasiyya foreign scholarship and once served as Financial Secretary of the NNPP Kano chapter.

In a related development, Governor Yusuf approved the appointment of Barrister Salisu Muhammad Tahir as the new Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice. Until now, he was the Director of Public Prosecution at the ministry.

The Head of Service has been directed to complete the administrative process for his formal assumption of duty by Monday, September 29, 2025.

As he announced the new appointments, Governor Yusuf said his administration remains committed to “competence, professionalism, and integrity in public service.”
