Hot SourceThe Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebhole said his administration would immortalize the late former Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Solomon Arase, an indigene of the state.
Okpebholo made the promise on Saturday while receiving the body of the late former Inspector-General of Police at the Benin Airport.
The Governor who is represented by his Chief of Staff, Gani Audu, described Arase as one of the finest Police Officers and IGPs in the country.
“As a State Government, we will work with the family to see how we can immortalize him. He was a great son of Edo State.
“Arase to us is one of the finest police officers and lawyers we have in Edo State and losing him at this time that the Nigeria Police Force and the country in general need him is not good for us.
“It is very painful to the government and people of Edo state but we are consoled with the good life he lived.
“It is painful that we lost somebody who always listens to every complaint and tries as much as possible to solve them”, he said.
Okpebholo described Arase as a team player and a man that is always willing to help.
He, however, prayed God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss, assuring that the government will do all that it can to support his family.
DAILY POST reports that late Arase died on August 31, at an Abuja hospital after a brief illness at the age of 69.
Solomon Ehigiator Arase was the 18th Inspector-General of Police, IGP, and later the Chairman of the Police Service Commission.
He was a graduate of Political Science from the Ahmadu Bello University in 1980, later Bachelor Degree in Law from the University of Benin and a Master in Law from the University of Lagos.
He also held a Master’s in Strategic Studies and was a Fellow of the Nigeria Defence College, fdc.
Arase was recruited into the Nigeria Police Force on December 1, 1981.
He served as Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State and Assistant Inspector-General in charge of intelligence, overseeing critical security operations and among others.
