Tinubu Preaches Tolerance Ahead of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Celebration

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians to embrace patience, tolerance and peaceful coexistence for the overall development of the country. 

He echoed this yesterday at a special Jumaat prayer at the National Mosque Abuja as part of activities to mark the country’s 65th independence Anniversary.

He explained that Nigeria can only achieve the dream of her founding fathers when citizens resolved to live together in peace, tolerate one another and embrace work hard.

 The President was represented at the occasion by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris. 

Idris conceded that differences will always exist, “but the President’s message is one of hope, unity, and togetherness. All Nigerians must imbibe these values so that, collectively, we can achieve the progress and prosperity that Mr. President has promised since assuming office.”

He urged Nigerians to be patient as efforts were ongoing to turn around the fortunes of the nation adding that though the country was undergoing transformation, the Tinubu administration was making steady progress towards tackling them. 

The President, based on the theme for this year’s anniversary: ‘Nigeria at 65: All Hands-on Deck for a Greater Nation’, 

congratulated the citizens on independence celebration and appealed to all, irrespective of ethnic, religious, political, or social affiliations—to come together in unison to build the Nigeria of their dreams.

He urged Nigerians to continue to pray for the leaders and the country as it inches towards attaining a brighter future. 

Idris also highlighted the achievements of the Tinubu administration, saying that Nigeria has recorded significant economic growth, improvements in security, notable progress in agriculture, and advances in other critical sectors.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Kyari, who also attended the Jummat prayers, said Nigeria is on a trajectory to recover its lost glory in the community of nations. 

The Etsu Nupe and Chairman, Niger State Traditional Council, His Highness Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, prayed for the well-being and prosperity of the nation at 65 and also called for peaceful coexistence.

    This desire for creative entrepreneurship is directly linked with a surge in demand for advanced digital skills. Over the past year, search interest in “how to learn AI” has skyrocketed by +160%, while practical queries like “how to make money with AI” have climbed by +40%, demonstrating that young creators see AI as a critical tool for success.

    This digital shift was brought to life at the ‘What’s Tea?’ workshop, held at Google’s Lagos office. Top creators like Korty EO, Layi Wasabi, Gilmore and Legendary Ben engaged in hands-on sessions with Gemini, focusing on how the AI tool can streamline demanding tasks like research, scriptwriting, and visual brainstorming, allowing them to focus on high-value creative output.

    “We’re seeing this incredible ambition in the search data, and our goal is to provide the tools that turn that ambition into achievement,” said Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Communications and Public Relations Manager for Google in West Africa. “Gen Z creators are not just shaping culture; they are building the future of Nigeria’s media landscape. By putting tools like Gemini in their hands, we are supporting their journey from creative passion to sustainable enterprise.”

    The collaboration with Handle It Africa, is a platform dedicated to empowering Africa’s digital and creative communities.

    “The energy in the Nigerian creator space is undeniable. These young talents are entrepreneurs building brands from the ground up,” stated Olufemi Oguntamu, Founder of Handle It Africa. “Our partnership with Google for ‘What’s Tea?’ was about creating a platform to equip them with the next level of digital tools, fostering a community that can collectively elevate Nigeria’s creator economy.”

    The sentiment on the ground mirrors the data, with creators actively integrating AI to gain a competitive edge.

    Layi Wasabi, a leading creator and comedian who spoke at the event, commented: “In this industry, your creativity is your product, but your efficiency is your business. Using AI like Gemini helps with the business side. It can speed up the brainstorming and research, which means I can produce more high-quality content. It’s a tool that supports both the art and the commerce of what we do.”

    The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Dr. Mukhtar Yawale Muhammad, has said that the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) is a key driver of Nigeria’s creative economy.

    Muhammad, who disclosed this on Wednesday when he paid a working visit to the headquarters of NTDA in Abuja, said that NTDA is the first agency he is officially visiting since assuming office, describing the Authority as a core and strategic institution within the ministry’s ecosystem.

    “NTDA is vital to this sector. Everything we do—whether in art, music, culture, or creativity—culminates in tourism. Your mandate is clear, and the success of Nigeria’s tourism sector hinges on NTDA’s ability to deliver on it. We must work together to make Nigeria the next leading tourist destination,” he stated.

    Muhammad, who was accompanied by directors of the ministry, underscored the importance of collaboration rather than competition among sister agencies, adding that overlapping functions should be seen as strengths rather than challenges.

    He urged the Authority to identify low-hanging fruits, set priorities, and drive initiatives that would showcase Nigeria’s rich tourism potential both locally and internationally.

    The Permanent Secretary further emphasised that Nigeria’s diversity, from the Sahara fringes to the mangroves of the South, offers immense opportunities for tourism development.

    He encouraged NTDA to leverage public-private partnerships (PPP) and innovative financing, stressing that lack of government funding should not be a barrier to success.

    The director overseeing the Office of the Director General, NTDA, Mr. Ovie Esewhaye, expressed gratitude to the Permanent Secretary for his encouragement and support.

    “We need to do more than what we are doing, and from what you said, Sir, indeed tourism can fund Nigeria’s Economy,” Esewhaye noted.

    He further outlined some of the Authority’s recent strides, including ongoing finalisation of regulations to strengthen the implementation of the NTDA Act, digitilisation of accreditation processes for Hospitality and Tourism Establishments (HTEs), with grading and classification also being transitioned to an online platform, partnerships with ECOWAS and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria on national tourism standards and promotion of the Tour Nigeria brand across festivals, exhibitions, and seminars to deepen domestic tourism.

    Others are plans to operationalise provisions of the NTDA Act such as the Tourism Departure Levy and the Tourism Development Fund in collaboration with FAAN, Immigration, and other stakeholders, establishment of the Convention and Visitors Bureau to market Nigeria as a Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) destination, strengthening of the National Travel Bureau (NTB) to package and promote tours effectively,

    improved tourism data collection through digital dashboards, in line with CBN and UN requirements and

    partnership with the LetsGoNigeria App, a one-stop shop for tourism information covering attractions, hotels, restaurants, and more across all 36 states and the FCT.

    “Our accreditation process has gone online. HTEs can now register their businesses from anywhere in the world. We are also working on a digital platform for grading and classification in collaboration with stakeholders, and the Tour Nigeria brand continues to drive domestic tourism,” Esewhaye added.

    He assured the Permanent Secretary that NTDA remains committed to delivering on its mandate, promoting the Tour Nigeria brand, and positioning Nigeria as a globally competitive tourist destination.
