The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has issued a public caution to recent high school graduates concerning a rise in inappropriate and irresponsible statements being made on social media platforms.
In a press release dated September 25, the Authority stated it has observed posts containing what it describes as “indecent language and troubling intentions.” The CSA specifically cited examples of widely circulated remarks, including phrases like “we go scatter them” and declarations about “snatching people’s husbands.”
The release serves as a stark reminder to young people that social media use carries significant responsibilities and long-term consequences. The Authority emphasized that online activity creates a permanent digital footprint that is often reviewed by universities, scholarship boards, and potential employers. According to the CSA, irresponsible content can severely damage an individual’s academic and professional prospects.
Beyond reputational harm, the CSA warned that such online behaviour can expose individuals to risks including cyberbullying, harassment, grooming, and other forms of exploitation. Furthermore, it noted that in serious cases, these actions may violate Ghana’s cybercrime laws, specifically the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038) and the Electronic Communications Act.
The Authority urged graduates to exercise caution and maintain decency and respect in all online interactions. It encouraged the use of social media as a positive tool for personal development, showcasing creativity, promoting entrepreneurship, and building meaningful networks.
As Ghana advances in its digital transformation, the CSA underscored the importance of fostering positive digital citizenship among the youth. Graduates were advised to think carefully before posting, remain aware of the permanent nature of their digital activity, and avoid sharing content that is indecent, harmful, or insulting.
The release concluded by stating the Authority’s commitment to continue collaborating with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, civil society organizations, and community leaders, to raise awareness about safe and responsible online behaviour.
