An Ibadan-based school principal, Mallam Abddulraman Zakariyah has said the large scale corruption and bribery in the education sector is the major factor responsible for examination malpractices in the country.

Zakariyah who is the Principal of Bakakat College, Ibadan said this during a press conference to herald the 40th anniversary of the school on Monday.

Zakariyah while addressing journalists, said most parents want to buy success for their children at all costs, increasing corruption and bribery in the sector.

He said to curb the menace, the government, parents and other stakeholders must rise and save the situation.

He advised the government to ensure that the policies made to improve education in the country are implemented.

“All stakeholders are involved, even the government. The ministry of education must sit up. There are many mushrooms schools, all these should be looked into.

“The ministry of education should monitor schools. Some schools want their students to get As at all cost. Even some parents. They want them to pass at all cost. Because, of corruption and bribery, they will have their ways.

“The students themselves should be monitored. There are some unregistered schools. They will take their students to other schools during the examination and they want them to pass at all cost. If the government does proper monitoring of schools, it will help to reduce examination malpractices”.

Aderinoye, in his own contribution, charged parents to serve as role model for their children.

He added that the parents have different roles to play to tackle examination malpractices in the country.
