The Initiative Against Human Rights Abuse and Torture, INAHURAT, has given the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, a one-month ultimatum to prosecute an Abuja-based realtor, Mrs Rebecca Omokamo Isaac, popularly known as Bilikisu Ishaku Aliyu, over alleged abuse of the naira.

The ultimatum followed a petition INAHURAT forwarded to the anti-graft agency concerning the alleged act.

In a reminder letter dated 18th September, 2025, signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Gerald O. Katchy, and addressed to the EFCC chairman, the rights group recalled that it had earlier petitioned the Commission on July 21, 2025, drawing attention to what it described as “repeated and intentional abuse” of the national currency by the realtor.

INAHURAT expressed disappointment that, despite the availability of “obvious evidence,” no visible action had been taken by the anti-graft agency nearly two months after the petition was submitted.

The group warned that failure by the EFCC to investigate and charge the matter to court within one month would amount to selective justice. It threatened to make the matter public and approach the court for an order of mandamus compelling the Commission to act.

The letter emphasized that Nigerians are keenly watching and waiting for the outcome, stressing that the credibility of the EFCC is at stake in the matter.

It would be recalled that the EFCC acknowledged receipt of the petition, with reference number EFCC/PET/HQR/2932/2025.

According to the petition, Godwin-Isaac was captured in multiple videos “spraying and trampling on naira notes” at various social events held in Etsako, Edo State, and Obosi, Anambra State.

The petition said she posted the videos on her social media platforms, an indication of total disregard for Nigerian laws.

The petition added, “Her actions are a direct violation of Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007, which expressly prohibits the abuse of the naira in any form, including spraying or stepping on it at parties.

“It is particularly disheartening that this individual appears to operate with impunity, often seen in public escorted by law enforcement officers who seemingly refuse to enforce the law. Such selective enforcement not only undermines the rule of law but emboldens others to act similarly.”
