Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, and Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke, have apprehended a suspected high-profile terrorist during a targeted operation in Taraba State.

In a statement released on Friday by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the success, according to the troops, was recorded following credible intelligence.

“Acting on credible intelligence, the troops intercepted the suspect at Takum Junction in Wukari Local Government Area on Wednesday, September 18, 2025. The 35-year-old suspect, identified as Saawuan Wuaiyolna, was arrested while riding a motorcycle.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Wuaiyolna hails from Ateryange community in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State and is believed to be a key member of a notorious gang led by wanted criminal kingpin Akiki Utivi, also known as ‘Full Fire’,” Muhammad said in the statement.

According to military sources, the suspect had infiltrated Wukari to gather intelligence on troop movements in preparation for coordinated attacks on civilians.

The Nigerian Army described the arrest as a significant blow to the operations of the gang and a reaffirmation of the success of Operation LAFIYA NAKOWA in disrupting terrorist and criminal networks across the region.

The Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their swift and decisive action.

He reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across its area of responsibility and called on the public to continue supporting military efforts by providing timely and reliable information.
