The Funeral Planning Committee has called on residents to cooperate fully to preserve the dignity of the Dote Yie rites, which span 14–18 September.
From street vending to the use of motorcycles, mopeds and tricycles along the main palace routes, all such activity is off-limits on Thursday. Social and commercial life across the city is expected to pause, with the committee warning that anyone who defies the rules will face firm penalties.
The week-long burial of Nana Konadu Yiadom III is expected to draw thousands of mourners and high-profile guests from across Ghana and beyond. The planning committee, chaired by the Omanhene of the Bompata Traditional Area, Nana Efa Apenteng, has assured the public of order, dignity and security throughout the rites.
“The burial service on Monday is slated for Churches, Clergy, Political Parties, Educational Institutions, NGOs, Telecommunication Companies, Corporate Institutions, all recognized associations and the General Public at the Manhyia Premises.
“Tuesday 16th September, Judiciary & Ghana Bar, Security Agencies, GAF, Gh Police, Gh Fire, Gh Prisons, Gh Immigration, Customs, SOE’s & Public officials, Financial Institutions and General Public,” the committee outlined.
With the royal capital preparing for a historic farewell, authorities say adherence to the restrictions is essential to honour the late Queen Mother and maintain the sanctity of the Dote Yie observances.
