The Kaduna State Water Corporation (KADSWAC) on Friday assured residents especially those in part of Sabo in Chikun Local Government area of the state that the current water scarcity being experienced will soon be over

The corporation explained that government has commenced full replacement of old and faulty pumps at the Detroit water intake.

Spokesman of the Corporation, Yakubu Danjuma, explained that most of the existing pumps at the intake were outdated and no longer functioning effectively, leaving only one or two in operation.

He said the pumps, which have been in use for many years, break down frequently and cannot sustain the distribution of water to the affected areas.

According to him, “the corporation has already completed the design and procurement process for new pumps.
We are replacing all the pumps, about six to eight in total because they are old and worn out.”

He further explained that when one pump works, it runs for a while and stops, then another takes over, saying that most of them have failed and cannot pump water effectively despite the new pipes laid.

Danjuma confirmed that funds for the purchase have been released and the new pumps may have been on their way to Nigeria, adding that once installation is completed, residents will begin to feel the impact through improved and steady water supply.

He appealed to customers in Chikun and other affected areas to exercise patience as the government is making deliberate efforts to revitalise the water sector across the state.

He assured, “By God’s grace, the issue of water scarcity in Chikun and surrounding areas will soon be a thing of the past.”

He further assured that they are working hard to restore normal supply, and want the public to know that the government has not abandoned them.
