Ashanti Kingdom bids farewell to Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III

The Ashanti Kingdom is in deep mourning following the death of the 14th Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who passed away on 7 August 2025 at the age of 91.

The announcement was made during an emergency meeting of the Asanteman Traditional Council held at Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. The late queen mother’s death marks the end of a significant era in Ashanti history.

Born in 1927 at the Benyaade Shrine in Merdan, Kwadaso, Kumasi, Nana Konadu Yiadom III was the eldest daughter of Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, the 13th Asantehemaa, and Opanin Kofi Fofie. She was enstooled as Asantehemaa on 6 February 2017, succeeding her mother who reigned for 39 years.

Throughout her reign, Nana Konadu Yiadom III was widely revered for her humility, fairness, and unwavering dedication to the welfare of her people. She championed maternal and child health initiatives, supporting the Mother-Baby Units at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Manhyia Government District Hospital. Her philanthropy extended to education with the establishment of the Nana Konadu Saviour School.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, expressed profound sorrow over the loss of his sister and the kingdom’s beloved queen mother. He urged unity and strength among the Ashanti people during this difficult period of mourning.

Funeral arrangements and traditional rites are currently being coordinated by the Oyoko Royal Family in accordance with Ashanti customs. The Asanteman Traditional Council has announced that Nana Konadu Yiadom III will lie in state at Manhyia Palace, allowing dignitaries and the public to pay their respects.

Asanteman extends heartfelt condolences to the royal family and the people of Ashanti. The legacy of Nana Konadu Yiadom III will undoubtedly inspire future generations and remain a beacon of service and leadership.
