Hot SourcePresident John Dramani Mahama has suspended all official engagements for the rest of the week in the wake of a devastating national tragedy that claimed the lives of eight individuals in a helicopter crash earlier today.
A press statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament and Minister for Government Communications, confirmed the President’s immediate suspension of all scheduled activities as the nation reels from the heartbreaking incident.
In honour of the deceased, the President has declared a three-day period of national mourning beginning tomorrow, Thursday, 7 August 2025.
The victims include, Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Muniru Mohammed, the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Aboagye, a former Member of Parliament; and Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC.
The helicopter crew comprised Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, all of whom also perished in the incident.
“All national flags are to be flown at half-mast until further notice,” the statement added, under the directive of the Chief of Staff.
While details surrounding the circumstances of the helicopter crash remain scanty, the tragedy has sent shockwaves throughout the country, prompting an outpouring of grief and solidarity from across the political divide and the general public.
President Mahama is expected to issue a more detailed statement or address the nation as investigations unfold and more information becomes available.
