The State Housing Company Limited (SHCL), has unveiled an ambitious plan to deliver 1,500 new housing units across the country, as part of a broader strategy to support President John Dramani Mahama’s 24-hour economic policy and reducing the national housing deficit.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Seasons Court, a 9-unit affordable apartment complex in Adenta on Monday August 4,2025, SHCL Managing Director, Mr John Bawah, emphasized the crucial link between quality housing and the successful implementation of a 24-hour work policy.

 “People who work late shifts or overnight need to know their families are in safe, secure homes. That’s our job in a 24-hour economy   making sure there’s quality, affordable housing for all,” Mr Bawah said.

The 1,500-unit project, which will be delivered in collaboration with private sector developers, forms part of SHCL’s strategic effort to scale up housing delivery to meet rising demand.

“We cannot continue building 100 or 200 homes at a time and expect to solve a 1.8-million-unit housing deficit. What we need is scale up projects in the thousands,” he stated.

“That’s why we are working closely with the private sector to deliver 1,500 new units,” he added.

Importantly, Mr Bawah assured that this major housing initiative will not come at the expense of existing, unfinished projects.

SHCL, he indicated is committed to completing all ongoing developments, including those started prior to 2016.

“We are committed to finishing what was started. Our approach ensures that no project is abandoned and no taxpayer money is lost,” he emphasized.

He credited President John Dramani Mahama for setting the tone for continuity in infrastructure development, noting that the current administration prioritizes completing inherited projects over sidelining them.

 “His Excellency, President Mahama, has made it clear that this government is focused on finishing what others started. That principle guides our every step,” Mr. Bawah stated.

The commissioning of the Seasons Court a two- to three-bedroom apartment complex marks the completion of one of several long-standing SHCL projects.

The development was fully sold out before its official opening, underscoring the growing demand for affordable housing and the public’s trust in SHCL.

 “It tells you that next time State Housing breaks ground, don’t wait, secure your unit early,” Mr. Bawah noted.

“It’s a reflection of our quality, our pricing, and the value we deliver to both public and private sector workers,” he added.

“With continued support, we will soon be commissioning not just 9 units but 1,500,” Mr Bawah assured.
