The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has officially commenced investigations into the alleged inappropriate conduct of some of its personnel following an incident involving journalists at Spintex in Accra on July 30, 2025.
In a press release issued by the Department of Public Relations at the General Headquarters in Burma Camp, the military confirmed that the action follows a directive from the Presidency.
The incident, which reportedly involved an encounter between soldiers and some journalists, has raised concerns about military-civilian relations and the treatment of media professionals during public operations.
Captain VA Arhin of the Ghana Navy, Acting Director General of Public Relations, signed the release and assured the general public that the investigations will be “thorough” and that any personnel found culpable “will be dealt with accordingly.”
“The Armed Forces remains professional and will do everything possible to maintain its known high standards,” the statement affirmed.
The Ghana Armed Forces has come under increasing public scrutiny in recent times over isolated incidents of excessive force, and this latest development adds to growing demands for greater transparency and accountability within the security sector.
Media rights advocates and civil society groups have welcomed the swift decision to launch the probe, calling it a step in the right direction toward upholding press freedom and the rule of law.
