In a decisive operation on Saturday, troops from the 22 Armoured Brigade, stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Patigi, Kwara State, successfully arrested eight suspected kidnappers and rescued two victims.

The military also recovered two motorcycles and two expended cartridges from the suspects, believed to be members of a kidnapping syndicate active in the area.

According to a statement released on Sunday by Lt. Stephen Nwankwo, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 22 Brigade, the operation was initiated based on credible intelligence received by the military.

“Acting on credible intelligence, troops launched a tactical operation on Saturday, 21 June 2025, targeting a hideout on the outskirts of Latandaji Village, Patigi Local Government Area,” the statement detailed.

Lt. Nwankwo further reported that the suspects attempted a brief resistance but were quickly overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower. “During the engagement, troops encountered mild resistance but swiftly subdued the criminals with superior firepower,” he stated.

The operation’s success led to a significant outcome: “The operation led to the rescue of two kidnap victims, identified as Mr. Amos Moses and Mr. Philip Michael, and the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers,” Lt. Nwankwo confirmed.

He also disclosed that one individual, identified as Mr. Mohammed Mohammed, sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation and “has been evacuated to Bachita Teaching Hospital for treatment.”

Following the engagement, further reconnaissance of the area yielded more evidence. “Further exploitation of the area led to the recovery of two motorcycles and two expended cartridge shells, believed to be used by the suspects,” Lt. Nwankwo added.

He concluded by stating the current status of the apprehended individuals: “All arrested individuals are currently in military custody for preliminary investigation and will be handed over to relevant authorities for prosecution.”

The military has reassured residents of their unwavering commitment to ridding the area of criminal elements and restoring lasting peace and security.
