Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo on Thursday announced the restoration of N100 million monthly subvention to Edo State University, Iyamho.

DAILY POST reports that Governor Okpebholo said the monthly subvention was earlier withdrawn by the immediate past administration of Mr Godwin Obaseki.

Okpebholo disclosed this at the 6th convocation ceremony of the institution located at the country home of Adams Oshiomhole in Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.

The governor, represented by Washington Osifo, Commissioner for Energy and Water Resources, also disclosed that the government was willing to increase the subvention in the future.

According to him, the N100million monthly subvention was initially withdrawn by the past administration of Godwin Obaseki.

DAILY POST recalls that the government of Monday Okpebholo had in December 2024 increased the monthly subvention to Ambrose Alli University, AAU, Ekpoma, from N40 million to N500m allocated to it by the Godwin Obaseki’s administration.

He, however, congratulated the management of the institution for keeping the vision of the university, and the parents for believing in the capacity of the lecturers in mentoring their wards academically.

He assured the institution of the state government’s commitment to ensure better education for the people of Edo State.

Earlier, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dawood Egbefo said 570 students graduated across the institution’s various disciplines.

Egbefo gave the breakdown of the graduates to include 14 First-Class Honours, 145 Second-Class Honours (Upper Division), 190 Second-Class Honours (Lower Division), 35 Third-Class Honours, 140 Postgraduates, including 20 PhD recipients.

He said out of the graduates, 46 are Medical and Surgery graduates.

While congratulating the graduands, he urged them to carry forward the values of excellence, integrity, and innovation that Edo University Iyamho has instilled in them.

“This is not the end of your journey but the beginning of a new chapter filled with endless possibilities. Embrace challenges with confidence.

“Continue to learn and grow, and above all, remain committed to making a positive impact in the world.

“The future belongs to those who dare to dream, innovate, and work tirelessly to achieve their goals,” he said.
