2026 World Cup: FIFA officially rejects Super Eagles petition against DR Congo

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has confirmed that FIFA has rejected their petition against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This was confirmed by the NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, on Tuesday.
Sanusi however insisted they were not satisfied with the verdict and will begin the process of appealing it.
He said: “We have received the decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee on our petition, but we are not satisfied with the decision, which rejected our petition.
“I want to assure Nigerians that the NFF has immediately commenced the process of appealing the decision.”
The Super Eagles lost the African play-off final to DR Congo 4-3 on penalties.
However, after the match, the NFF protested the eligibility of some players in the Congolese squad, citing perceived fraud in the issuance of passports those involved.
DR Congo have been drawn to face the winner of the clash between the Jamaica and New Caledonia in the 2026 World Cup intercontinental play-off later this month.

The former Leicester City star doubles as a player-cum-General Manager of Kano Pillars.

The teams with the most cards, offsides and clean sheets during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, tournament in Morocco have been confirmed.

DAILY POST reports that the 2025 AFCON was recently concluded in Morocco last weekend.

Senegal emerged champions following a 1-0 win against Morocco in the AFCON final, thanks to Pape Gueye’s second-half goal.

However, in a post on CAF’s website, the country with the most cards are champions, Senegal.

The Teranga Lions had 17 yellow cards and 1 red card during the tournament in Morocco.

The country with the most offsides is Egypt.

The Pharaohs, who were defeated in the third-place playoff, recorded 15 offsides.

Similarly, the countries with the most clean sheets are Senegal and Morocco. Both teams have 5 clean sheets each.

Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen, became visibly emotional after the supporters unveiled a tifo, before their Champions League last-16 first leg against Liverpool.

The game is being played at the Ali Sami Yen Sports Complex RAMS Park in Istanbul, Turkey.

The tifo had a huge image of Osimhen’s late mother and his daughter.

Ahead of kick-off, the fans showed their support for Osimhen with the banner.

The Nigerian striker responded in typical fashion, as he provided the assist for Mario Lemina’s opener within the opening 10 minutes.

Osimhen already has seven goals to his name in the Champions League this season.
