Abia State government has said that those spreading false information in the state risks being prosecuted with Cyber Laws in the Nigerian legal system.
The Commissioner for information, Okey Kanu, made this known at Government House in Umuahia, on Monday while briefing Journalists on the outcome of this week’s executive council meeting, presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Kanu who said the State government had nothing to hide, noted that those spreading fake news are misinforming the public and infringing the rights of others.
“This is to inform those who peddle falsehood all in the name of that the time has come for them to desist from such unwholesome acts or be ready to Dave the full wrath of the law.
” Such people need to be reminded of the Cyber Laws in our legal system, Cyber Security Act, the Data Protection, all parts of our legal system,” the Commissioner said.
