Aiyedatiwa declares three-day mourning for late Ondo SSG

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has declared a three-day mourning period over the death of the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Tayo Oluwatuyi.

According to the governor, the mourning period will run from Sunday, 5th January, 2025, to Tuesday, 7th January, 2025.

While disclosing this during a condolence visit to the widow and family of the deceased in Akure, the state capital, Aiyedatiwa said the late Oluwatuyi lived a fulfilled life and made positive impacts on many people.

Oluwatuyi, also known as ‘Tukana’ died on Saturday while receiving treatment in the hospital after a car accident while on a trip from Akure to Ibadan, Oyo State.

The governor, who led the members of the State Executive Council on the condolence visit, stated that the late SSG was a recurring decimal in the governance and politics of the state.

Aiyedatiwa, who extolled the virtues of Oluwatuyi, described him as a complete gentleman who conducted his public and private life with decorum and humility.

He added that the history of the state will not be complete without a mention of the impacts of the late Oluwatuyi

In the condolence register, the governor wrote: “Hon. Tayo Oluwatuyi, you came, you lived, you performed your God-given tasks, and you impacted lives.

“You have decided to leave us at a time we never expected, but God said it is time to come home. May you have rest at the bosom of your creator, God. Amen.”

He stated this at the 2024 Base Socio-Cultural activities which held at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Kaduna, where he was the guest of honour.

Sani particularly commended the Nigerian Air Force for their operations in the North-West and for maintaining cordial civilian-military relations with residents.

He stressed the vital role of cultural diversity in the country and praised the Air Force for promoting national values and unity through celebrations, adding that the gathering demonstrated the strong bond between government and security agencies in Kaduna State.

Israel accuses Hezbollah of violating ceasefire agreement

Israeli Defense Minister, Israel Katz has accused Hezbollah of failing to comply with the terms of a ceasefire agreement that took effect on November 27, following two months of intense conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

Katz, speaking after a visit to Israel’s northern military command, warned that continued breaches by Hezbollah could prompt military action.

He stated that Hezbollah had not withdrawn “beyond the Litani River” in southern Lebanon as required by the agreement.

“If this condition is not met, there will be no agreement, and Israel will be forced to act on its own to ensure the safe return of residents of the north to their homes,” Katz stated.

The truce outlines several key terms, including: Hezbollah’s withdrawal north of the Litani River, approximately 30 kilometers (20 miles) from the Israeli border, the dismantling of Hezbollah’s military infrastructure in southern Lebanon, deployment of the Lebanese army alongside UN peacekeepers in the south as Israel gradually withdraws within a 60-day timeframe.

Katz also criticized the lack of action by the Lebanese army in dismantling Hezbollah’s weapons and eliminating terrorist infrastructure in the region.

On Saturday, Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem, on the other hand, accused Israel of violating the ceasefire, stating that the group was prepared to retaliate even before the 60-day deadline for Israeli withdrawal.

“We have said that we are giving an opportunity to prevent Israeli violations and to implement the agreement, and we will exercise patience,” Qassem said.

The United Nations peacekeeping force, UNIFIL, has been tasked with overseeing the ceasefire alongside a committee comprising representatives from Israel, Lebanon, France, and the United States.

However, UNIFIL has also accused both parties of violations, further complicating the fragile peace.

National Security Adviser, NSA, Nuhu Ribadu and Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, have been recognised among the 100 Most Reputable Africans for 2025.

The list which was released on Sunday by Reputation Poll International, RPI, in partnership with the Global Reputation Forum, had the names of other notable Nigerians and African leaders.

NAN also reports that the list featured men and women from diverse sectors across the continent, including technology, creative industries, sports, public service, academia and environmental advocacy.

“This is a celebration of African excellence and a call to recognise those shaping the future of the continent with their unwavering commitment to progress and innovation.

“Honorees were chosen for their significant local and global influence as well as their ability to create meaningful change.

“The 2025 honorees were selected through a rigorous methodology based on integrity, ethical leadership and commitment to societal well-being.

“They were also selected through the impact of contributions to transformative projects and initiatives as well as the recognition and influence within their respective fields,” the organisers said in a statement posted on their website.

The ‘roll of honour’ released on the organisations website also had the names of Dr Paul Enenche, the founder, Dunamis International Gospel Church, Mr Cosmos Maduka, Chairman Coscharis Motors and Senator Gbemisola Saraki.

While Enenche and Adeboye have appeared on the list in the past, Dr Daniel Olukoya, founder, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, is appearing for the first time.

Others are Bala Wunti, the Group General Manager National Petroleum Investment Management Services, NAPIMS, Mr Tony Elumelu, Chairman, United Bank for Africa, UBA, as well as songwriter and worship singer, Osinachi Egbu, popularly known as “Sinach”.

Also in the list is Olukemi Badenoch, a Nigerian-born British politician who is serving as the leader of opposition and leader of Conservative Party since November 2024.

President-elect of Ghana, John Mahama, who won an election for his second term in office, Benedict Oramah, President of Afrexim Bank and Mo Ibrahim, a Sudanese-British billionaire businessman are the other notable African leaders that made the list.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan; Dr Jennifer Douglas, Managing Partner, Miyetti Law Firm and Ogiame Atuwatse, the Olu of Warri made the list in previous editions.

Pastor William Kumuyi, founder and General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry and Bishop David Oyedepo, founder, Living Faith Church Worldwide, were among the 2023 honorees, NAN reports.
