ICPC arraigns man for allegedly forging UNIABUJA, NYSC certificates
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has arraigned Baba Kudu Mohammed for allegedly forging a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Abuja and a National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, exemption certificate.
Mohammed was presented before Honourable Justice A.Y. Shafa of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, No. 45, sitting in Nyanya, on a four-count charge of forgery.
ICPC accused him of presenting the alleged forged certificates to the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, NIPC, with the intent to secure employment with the agency.
One of the counts contained in the charge read: “That you, Baba Kudu Mohammed (M), sometime in the month of August 2010 or thereabouts at Abuja, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did have in your possession a forged Letter of Exemption from National Service bearing your name with identification number NYSC/CMD/LT. No. 201201201 and serial number 15440, purportedly issued by the National Youth Service Corps Directorate Headquarters in Abuja, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 368 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 53, Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”
Mohammed pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The prosecution counsel, Mr. Hamza Sani, informed the court that they were prepared to proceed, as he had two witnesses present to support the case.
Counsel for the defendant, M.E. Abubakar, applied for bail on behalf of Mohammed, which the prosecution counsel did not oppose.
The court granted bail under specified conditions, and the case has been adjourned to March 3, 2025, for the commencement of hearings.

The decomposing body of Hon. Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly who was recently declared missing, has been found.
DAILY POST learnt on Thursday morning that the body was found at the 2nd Niger Bridge by a combined security team.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the unfortunate incident to DAILY POST in a text message.
He said: “Yes, our operatives are currently at the scene. As soon as I get more details, I will keep you updated.”
The lawmaker representing Onitsha I North constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly was kidnapped by gunmen on December 24, 2024.
He was reportedly abducted while returning home on Ugwunaobankpa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha.

The Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency has called on the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to extend the payment deadline for the 2025 Hajj by two weeks to enable more intending pilgrims to complete their payments.
The Acting Executive Secretary of the agency, Ladan Ibrahim, made this appeal while briefing journalists on the state’s level of preparedness for this year’s pilgrimage.
“With the extension, more people will be able to complete their payments in time, ensuring that no one misses out,” Ibrahim stated.
He expressed concerns that many intending pilgrims, especially those from rural areas, are struggling to meet the current deadline and emphasized that the extension would allow for full subscription of the allocated slots.
“In the past, we were allowed to make payments even after Ramadan. With a brief extension, we are confident that all allocated slots will be fully subscribed,” he said.
NAHCON has allocated 5,216 Hajj slots to Sokoto State, but Ibrahim revealed that only 1,700 intending pilgrims have made their initial deposits so far.
Despite the challenge, he assured that the agency is about 70% prepared for the pilgrimage, having secured accommodation in Mecca and Medina, finalized catering services, and arranged comfortable camp facilities for pilgrims.
He also disclosed that Sokoto State has already remitted over ₦5 billion to NAHCON, covering initial deposits and other expenses.
In addition, he added that discussions are ongoing with the state government to provide financial assistance to intending pilgrims, similar to the support given last year.

A violent chieftaincy dispute has claimed the lives of two people and left several homes in ruins in the Odu electoral ward of Maraba Udege Development Area, Nasarawa State.
The dispute, which has persisted for over three years, centers on a land ownership disagreement between the Afo people of Angwan Duse and Angwan Kasa communities. Despite previous efforts to mediate, the crisis remains unresolved.
In the wake of the latest violence, Governor Abdullahi Sule visited the affected communities to assess the extent of the damage and seek lasting solutions.
Addressing the contending families from the Odu and Embu communities, Governor Sule issued a stern warning against further hostilities. “This crisis has lingered for too long. We must put an end to this senseless destruction and loss of lives,” he stated.
The governor also announced plans to appoint an administrator to oversee the area and foster peace-building efforts.
He called on community stakeholders to view Mararaba Udege as a collective heritage of the Afo people, urging them to set aside communal divisions for the sake of development.
Governor Sule also highlighted the strategic importance of the area, noting its growing significance due to ongoing mining activities.
“We need peace here to harness the opportunities that lie within this region,” he emphasized.
