President of De-Advocates for Justice Human Rights Organisation, AJ, Comrade Israel Joe, has called for discontinuation of the personal vendetta against human rights activist, Sowore Omoyele, by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
The activist has threatened that his group and other civil society groups will, in solemn solidarity, occupy the court on the same day either to see justice or observe a subversive collective will of the people.
He condemned the actions of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for his vindictiveness against the person of Omoyele Sowore with regards to demanding details about his account as a law-abiding citizen of Nigeria.

Joe said, “This is an antique of the ruling class to silence dissenting voices, especially that of a patriotic activist, nationalist, Pan-African journalist, and businessman in the person of Comrade Omoyele Sowore through a counter-productive court process.”
“This was the same charge I was threatened with by the police in Delta State Command when I spearheaded and led the #EndHarshipProtest in Delta State.
“I was detained for hours while the police scrambled for my financial records to implicate me. However, they found none.”

Abia State Government, through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, has charged publishers to separate the workbook from the textbooks supplied to schools in the State, to make it useful for other pupils.
The State government also kicked against schools recommending four different textbooks for one subject, which financially drains parents.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Goodluck Ubochi, who announced this during a stakeholders’ meeting convened by his Ministry, reminded them that Governor Alex Otti declared free and compulsory education in primary and basic secondary schools.
He emphasized the need for PSLAT examination for Primary 6, compulsory BECE examination for JSS 3, and mandatory examination for SS2 before registering for WAEC, harping on the need to acquire such certificates as directed by the government.
Speaking further, the Commissioner emphasized that the State government frowns at children hawking or loitering during school hours, noting that Education Marshals have been directed to capture parents and guardians of defaulters, and advised them to enroll children in schools.
Ubochi assured stakeholders that certain considerations will be made to fill the gaps in areas needed for the next teachers’ recruitment.
The meeting was attended by representatives from WAEC, NECO, ANCOPPS, NUT, PTA, Publishers, LGA Education Secretaries, NASU, top officials of the Ministry of Education, among others.

In an open letter to the governor, Agberen said the anniversary should instead serve as a moment of sober reflection on what he called the “subpar performance” of the state government and its negative impact on the lives of ordinary citizens.
He urged the administration to focus on practical measures that would improve the welfare of Deltans.
The statement was sent to our correspondent in Warri.
He said, “Industrialization and manufacturing companies are the sole means of achieving a safe and prosperous state.
“They will facilitate food provision for impoverished families, thereby reducing crime rates and poverty levels, as hunger is a primary contributor to insecurity and other societal issues in the state.”
He said, “Deltans have been very unfortunate to have had a government in the state for the past thirty-four years that has been principally driven by the vision of self-enrichment and the near-total neglect of the vast majority of Deltans. The indicators of bad governance in Delta State are staring us all in the face.”
According to him, “From the embarrassingly weak healthcare system to the horrible level of opportunities for youths to thrive despite our God-given resources.
“There is no industrialization, and the roads and poor skill acquisition programs initiated by past and present governments are insufficient.
“There are no opportunities for foreign investors to exploit and improve our local economy, especially ones that would boost agriculture and other economic activities.
“There is no better way to demonstrate concern for the future of Delta State than to underscore the dire circumstances faced by the majority of its indigenous population.
“Delta State is experiencing severe difficulties, and the current level of infrastructural development is insufficient to support the people or the economy.”
Agberen congratulated the state on its 34th anniversary celebration.
“Deltans, as we hope for progress and transformation within the state, while keeping our fingers crossed as watchdogs, constantly rejecting every government antic that keeps us underdeveloped and impoverished.”

Group Commends Mbah for Restoring Enugu Regional Hub
A socio-political group of eminent professionals at home and in the Diaspora, The Enugu Global Network (EGN) has commended the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, for restoring the state’s glory as the Eastern regional centre of excellence in tourism, commerce, and hospitality.
According to the group, in just 26 months, Governor Mbah has transformed Enugu State and opened it up for international business and tourism, noting that he is doing justice to his developmental master plan.
EGN, in a statement signed by its President, Prof. Oguejiofor Ujam, and Secretary, Hon. Malachy Okey Onyechi, pointed out that the ongoing Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Enugu is a confirmation of the state’s new status as the hub of socio-economic development in the South East.
The group observed that after the prolonged hangover of the civil war which left infrastructure, social amenities, commerce, and public transportation in a dilapidated state, Governor Mbah has taken decisive steps to rewrite the narrative.
EGN said: “We have seen a man who is in a hurry to redefine governance and rekindle the former glory of Enugu State. By adopting Tomorrow is Here as the mantra of his administration, the governor has restored hope and confidence, positioning Enugu as a prime destination.”
The group noted that across several sectors, Governor Mbah has demonstrated visionary leadership.
“He began with the massive provision of potable water to improve healthy living and sanitation, followed by sweeping reforms in education. These include revising the curriculum to reflect current realities with emphasis on science, technology, and environmental sustainability, as well as the launch of the Smart Schools initiative,” the group said.
It highlighted the governor’s holistic approach to healthcare, improved teaching and learning, enhanced skill acquisition programmes, investment in veterinary medicine, and the provision of modern laboratory facilities all tied to his Tomorrow is Here agenda.
EGN explained that the totality of Governor Mbah’s achievements reflects the realistic nature of his promise to grow Enugu State’s economy into a $40 billion economy.
According to the group, the stature of national and international conferences hosted in the state within the past two months alone shows that the governor deserves commendation.
The statement also emphasized the nexus between tourism and revenue generation, explaining that facilities provided by the Mbah’s administration including the International Conference Centre, the remodeled iconic Presidential Hotel, the Enugu Air, and the rollout of luxurious Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered commuter buses, have opened up Enugu to the world.
“We are therefore moved by these strings of successes to commend our governor and urge him to sustain the tempo as he moves into the second half of his first tenure. The ease-of-doing-business reforms, particularly the automated land registry and e-tax payment model, are steps in the right direction toward sustainable growth,” the group stated.
