INEC Records 66,951 Pre-registrations in Oyo

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Oyo State, Dr Adeniran Tella, has said 66,951 residents participated in the Continuous Voters’ Registration (CVR) pre-registration within one week.

Tella disclosed this on Tuesday in Ibadan during the inauguration of the CVR sensitisation campaign at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation centre. 

He described the figure as impressive, noting it indicates that residents of the state remain eager to participate fully in the democratic process. 

The commissioner recalled that the CVR resumed on August 18 with online pre-registration, while physical registration began on August 25. 

Tella explained that citizens who turned 18 and pre-registered online, alongside those yet to register, could complete the process at the INEC state office. 

He said pre-registration could also be done in any of the 33 local government area offices of the commission. 

“It is, however, important to note that already registered voters need not visit the state or LGA offices if they have lost their Permanent Voter Card (PVC). 

“If the PVC is defaced, or if voters wish to transfer it from one LGA, ward or state, this can be done online,” he said.

The REC said the processes could be completed via: https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/Public/getStarted. 

Tella explained that the essence was to decongest registration centres at the state headquarters and across all 33 INEC local government offices. 

He noted that the sensitisation campaign aimed to widely publicise the commencement, procedures and requirements of the CVR. 

Tella further stated that the exercise would provide clear, simple and accurate information on registration, transfer procedures, and importantly, collection of Permanent Voter Cards. (NAN)

Global Leaders to Spotlight Nigeria’s Economic Future at CCDI Policy Forum in Washington

The President of the World Bank, Ajay Banga, is expected to join a distinguished lineup of global experts at a high-level policy session on Nigeria’s economy, organised by the Centre for Convention on Democratic Integrity Ltd/Gte (CCDI) in partnership with the University of Washington.

The event, scheduled for October 15, 2025, will take place on the sidelines of the World Bank and IMF Boards of Governors Meetings in Washington D.C.

In a joint statement, CCDI President and UN/ECOSOC Permanent Representative, Olufemi Aduwo, and Dr. Anind Dey of the University of Washington, said the forum will examine the intersection of Nigeria’s economic strategy, oil security, and long-term prosperity. The session aims to offer policymakers, investors, and academics a platform to assess Nigeria’s resilience amid global energy shifts and mounting fiscal pressures.

Former U.S. Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm, will deliver the keynote address. A respected global voice on energy transition and climate-linked economic policy, Granholm is expected to frame the conversation around Nigeria’s strategic role in the global energy landscape.

Moderating the session will be former U.S. Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, Wally Adeyemo, bringing his expertise in international finance and policy coordination to the dialogue.

Panel discussions will feature Professor Jodi Sandfort of the University of Washington’s School of Public Policy and Governance, and Anita George, former Director of Energy and Extractive Industries at the World Bank. The event is expected to draw top-level delegates including finance ministers, central bank governors, global investors, diplomats, and international media.

This marks another milestone for CCDI, which previously hosted acclaimed sessions on Nigeria’s agricultural and energy sectors at the 2023 and 2024 World Bank/IMF meetings in Marrakech and Washington, respectively.

“This session is about more than diagnosing Nigeria’s challenges,” said Aduwo. “It’s about crafting bold, credible solutions and positioning Nigeria as a strategic actor in global economic discourse—especially through the lens of oil and fiscal security.”

The organisers praised the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), led by Engr. Bayo Ojulari, and Nigeria’s military for recent progress in restoring oil production and curbing leakages. These gains, they noted, are essential to stabilising the country’s finances and unlocking the full potential of its hydrocarbon resources amid a rapidly evolving energy landscape.

The re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027 would usher in great opportunities to the people of Osun State after  All Progressives Congress (APC) would have won  the off-cycle state gubernatorial election slated for next year, Omooba Dotun Babayemi, has assured.

Babayemi, a leading contender for the APC  ticket in the 2026 gubernatorial election, maintained that a victory for the party in Osun and the federal level, would engender a synergy that would be beneficial to the state and its people.

He said these during the continuation of his statewide ward-to-ward visits to Ila and Obokun Local Government Areas of the state where he touched 10 wards across the two councils.

Aside employment opportunities that would be available to the youth in the state, Babayemi added that the benefits of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda would trickle down to the grassroots.

“Our victory at the next year’s gubernatorial election in Osun State and President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, as well as our control of the local government administration, will definitely  go beyond the rhetoric, bring about tangible deliveries to our people across the state,” he stressed.

  Babayemi who expressed the optimism that such a development would bring about enduring growth and development to the state and its people, emphasised that an APC administration in the state would be anchored on good governance.

The governorship hopeful visited the following five wards in Ila LG;Ward 11, Ajaba/Edemosi/Aba Orangun,Ward 2- Ejigbo 2,Ward 9-Oke Èdè,Ward 4-Isedo 1, and Ward 5-Isedo 2, as well as five wards in Obokun LG which include Esa Oke- Ward 7,Esa Odo-Ward 9,Ilare-Ward 10,

Otan Ile-Ward 8, and Imesi-Ward 6.

The people of the areas visited commended Babayemi for taking time to be in their wards, urging him to ensure that their needs at the grassroots were met when given the chance to lead the state in the long run.

They promised maximum participation in the ongoing voters registration exercise being undertaken by the INEC in preparation for the coming election in the state.

According to them, their cards would be used to usher in an APC administration in Osun and to ensure the return of President Tinubu in 2027 general election.

Breaking: Passengers Stranded as Abuja-Kaduna Train Derails

A train traveling from Abuja to Kaduna derailed on Tuesday morning, causing several carriages to overturn and triggering widespread panic among passengers.

The incident occurred shortly after the train departed Abuja around 11a.m., with reports indicating a chaotic scene as people scrambled to safety in fear and confusion.

The cause of the train derailment is unknown and yet to be determined. The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) is expected to provide further information on the incident and the measures being taken to ensure passengers’ safety and prevent similar incidents in future.

It was however learnt that security sources confirmed that military personnel had been deployed to the site to assist in evacuating stranded passengers.There was no official statement from the management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) as at the time of writing this report..

The derailment has raised concerns about passenger safety and the reliability of Nigeria’s rail network. As investigations into the cause of the incident begins, passengers and stakeholders are eagerly awaiting updates on the situation.

The Delta State community in Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America(USA) recently held  a reception for the visiting Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, in an evening that blended dialogue, cultural pride, and Diaspora engagement.

According to a statement from the group, the event provided an opportunity for the deputy governor to interact with members of the Nigerian Diaspora, many of whom commended his humility and willingness to exchange ideas openly. Speaking at the event, Onyeme reaffirmed the Delta State Government’s commitment to delivering durable infrastructure and human capital development through Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s “MORE Agenda.” 

He highlighted ongoing projects across the state, including the construction of roads and bridges, as well as efforts to expand electricity access to the Ndokwa nation.

“The administration is determined to ensure every Deltan feels the impact of government, both in infrastructure and in growth opportunities,” Onyeme said.

The highlight of the evening was a symbolic presentation of a gift to the deputy governor by Chief Paul Okoku, a former member of the Nigerian Super Eagles squad that won silver at the 1984 African Cup of Nations.

Also in attendance were prominent members of the community, including Professor Juliet Elu of Morehouse College; Chief Collins Odinjor and his wife, Alero; Mr. Raymond Ekurhare; Chief Emeka Chimekwene; Mr. Frederick Ogodo and his wife, Henrietta; Attorney Ani and his wife, Christabel; Mr. Valentine Egbune; Ms. Ndidi Ogwu; Dr. Gerald Dariah (MD); and Mr. Ejiro Ineneji.

The deputy governor, who was accompanied by his wife, Ezinne Catherine Onyeme, and their children, expressed gratitude to the Diaspora community for their support. The reception was hosted by Mr. Kingsley Dike and his wife, Tilda, at their Atlanta residence.

The interactive evening reinforced the strong ties between Delta State’s leadership and its Diaspora, with participants pledging continued collaboration in promoting development back home.
