President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to take decisive action to end the ongoing strike by resident doctors and ensure their prompt return to work.

Minister of State for Health, Dr Iziaq Salako, disclosed this yesterday in Abuja while addressing journalists.

He said the President’s directive followed mounting public concern over the nationwide disruption of healthcare services.

Salako apologised to Nigerians affected by the strike and assured that the Federal Government was working tirelessly to restore normalcy in hospitals.

“Mr President has expressly directed that we must ensure resident doctors resume work without delay,” the minister stated.

According to him, the government has been in continuous dialogue with leaders of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, regarding 19 outstanding issues raised by the union.

He stated that the dispute originated from a circular issued by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, NSIWC, which created division among healthcare professionals.

It was gathered that the circular was later withdrawn to pave the way for a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, CBA, that includes the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, NANNM, and the Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU.

Salako noted that the CBA committee had convened 12 meetings before talks were suspended due to disagreements over salary structures and the appointment of non-doctor health workers as consultants.

To bridge the divide, the ministry engaged a professor of industrial relations to mediate between the disputing unions, with an interim report already submitted to the government.

He revealed that the Tinubu administration recruited over 14,000 health workers in 2024 and plans to employ an additional 23,000 personnel across 78 federal health institutions within the year.

The minister also announced that the President approved an upward review of the retirement age for clinical health workers to 65 years and released N21.3 billion to offset outstanding arrears, with 60 percent already disbursed.

Salako appealed to the striking doctors and other unions to cooperate with the government in achieving lasting stability within the health sector, emphasising the importance of collaboration.

“The health sector operates as a team; no cadre can function effectively in isolation,” he said.

However, sharing the statement on his official X handle, Rep Moore linked Kwankwaso to the alleged death of some Nigerian Christians.

According to the lawmaker, Kwankwaso instituted the sharia law, which he claimed made blasphemy “punishable by death”.

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, Osun State Chapter, has raised alarm that the planned Judiciary Service Commission, JSC, meeting may be used as a propaganda to undermine our struggle for fairness and justice.

Osun JUSUN chairman, Comrade Idris Adedayo Adeniran dropped this hint in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Tuesday in Osogbo.

Osun JUSUN while expressing surprise that the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Osogbo branch was seemingly siding with the Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo rather than facilitating a reconciliation between both parties, also rejected any attempt to use the JSC meeting as leverage to compel JUSUN to resume work without a satisfactory agreement

DAILY POST recalls that the Osun JUSUN chapter had on September 19, 2025, embarked on an indefinite strike action to press home its demands on ratifying the promotion 2023 and 2024 promotion of its members.

According to Adeniran, “We fully support the JSC meeting. However, we’re concerned that the Nigerian Bar Association leadership’s announcement of JSC meeting appears to be made without JUSUN’s involvement, despite our ongoing strike and the fact that the state judiciary is currently under lock and key.

“This raises suspicions that the meeting may be used as propaganda to undermine our struggle for fairness and justice. We reject any attempt to use the JSC meeting as leverage to compel JUSUN to resume work without a satisfactory agreement.

“It’s surprising to see the NBA leadership seemingly siding with the Honourable Chief Judge rather than facilitating a mediatory role.”

The Osun JUSUN chairman also reiterated the earlie stand of the union that the strike would not be called off until the ria demands were met and that any official meeting between them and the state’s chief judge would only take place with the JUSUN national president in attendance.

“We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to securing justice and fairness for all JUSUN members, with emphasis on:

“Timely and merit-based career advancement opportunities for 2024 and 2025 promotions.

“Improved working conditions, benefits, and overall well-being.

“We reiterate our unwavering commitment to our demands and will continue negotiations with the Honourable Chief Judge.

“No intimidation will deter us from pursuing fairness and justice for JUSUN members in Osun State. Our demands are legitimate, reasonable, and long overdue. We will persist until they are fully met and our rights are recognized by the Honourable Chief Judge,” he said.

“Any official meeting will be attended by the National Leadership of JUSUN, who are best positioned to negotiate on behalf of the union,” he added.

The Lagos State Government has begun the second phase of enumeration for residents affected by the Oworonshoki Regeneration Project as part of its ongoing compensation programme for property owners whose structures were demolished during the urban renewal initiative.

The exercise, which commenced on Monday, November 3, 2025, at the Oloworo Palace in Oworonshoki, Kosofe Local Government Area, was coordinated by the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency, LASURA.

It was supervised by the agency’s General Manager, Town Planner, TPL, Oladimeji Animashaun, alongside directors, technical officers, and representatives of relevant government bodies.

Also present were community leaders, traditional chiefs, members of Community Development Associations, CDAs, and Community Development Committees, CDCs, civil society groups, security personnel, journalists, and a large number of residents who turned out to be documented.

According to TPL Animashaun, the second phase of enumeration became necessary to accommodate residents who were unable to participate in the initial exercise and to ensure that every legitimate claimant receives due compensation, in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s directive.

“Just last week, we distributed compensation to affected residents whose buildings were pulled down under the Oworonshoki Urban Regeneration Project. However, several individuals who missed the initial enumeration appealed for another opportunity to be captured,” Animashaun said.

“Today’s exercise is to ensure no one is left out. As you can see, the turnout is even greater than before, which shows growing confidence in the government’s sincerity,” he added.

The LASURA boss noted that initial skepticism among residents had shifted to trust after the successful disbursement of the first batch of compensation, prompting more property owners to come forward for verification.

“Some residents initially doubted the government’s commitment and even considered protesting. But when they saw their neighbours receiving compensation, they realized it was genuine. That trust has now encouraged wider participation,” he explained.

Animashaun assured residents that the verification and compensation process would be completed within a short timeframe.

“Once this enumeration phase is concluded, payments will follow promptly, within a few days or at most a week, just as we did with the first batch,” he stated.

He also urged residents to remain peaceful and cooperate fully with government officials to ensure a smooth and transparent process, reiterating that the Sanwo-Olu administration remains committed to fairness, transparency, and the welfare of all Lagosians affected by developmental projects.
