The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern States and Abuja has urged Nigerians to use US President Donald Trump’s recent statement on alleged Christian genocide in Nigeria as a call for unity and collective action.
The Chairman of the association, Rev. John Hayab, made this call on Tuesday, saying that rather than viewing Trump’s comments as divisive, Nigerians should see them as an opportunity to work together to end killings and religious intolerance across the country.
DAILY POST reports that Trump, in a recent statement, alleged that Christians in Nigeria were facing persecution and urged global attention to the situation.
His remarks have since stirred public debate within and outside the country.
The CAN chairman, therefore, said the statement should serve as a wake-up call for both faith communities to demand concrete steps from the government to ensure the safety and freedom of all citizens, irrespective of religion or identity.
“Trump’s statement about Christian genocide in Nigeria should be an opportunity for peace-loving Christians and Muslims to unite and demand concrete action by our government to stop the killing of anybody because of religion or any form of identity,” Hayab said.
According to him, a fair reading of Trump’s words reveals concern rather than condemnation, portraying the voice of an outsider urging Nigerians to uphold peace and unity.
“If you choose to read President Trump’s statement with an open mind, you will simply hear the voice of a visitor who cares about you and wants you to do something serious to enjoy peace and unity in your country,” he added.

DAILY POST reports that the claim of Christian genocide in Nigeria took another turn last week, with President Donald Trump designating Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC).
The US President also vowed that if the Nigerian government fails to end the alleged persecution of Christians, the American military may intervene.
However, speaking shortly after a meeting with the National Security Adviser (NSA) on Monday, the CDS said there is no genocide against Christians, as claimed by some US lawmakers and religious freedom activists.

The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to beg President Donald Trump of the United States, US, over the recent military threats against Nigeria due to reported killings of Christians.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele urged Tinubu not to put himself in a position where he would be at the mercy of the US President but to quickly tackle insecurity, as it would affect his chances in 2027.
The prophet revealed that he had warned years ago that insecurity would affect Tinubu’s government, but he was ignored.
He called on the president to quickly address the issue; otherwise, he would have serious problems.
Primate Ayodele said: “Don’t travel to go and beg Trump; he wants to make money. Tinubu shouldn’t be at his mercy; rather, he should go to God and work well on insecurity.
“I have said that insecurity will cost his government a lot; all he needs to do is wake up and ensure he tackles security well.”
The prophet stated that Nigeria’s issue is beyond genocide and that it is just an excuse Trump wants to use to negotiate for Nigeria’s resources.
He urged Tinubu to be patient because he would be given different options, which he needs to be careful about to avoid making the wrong decision.
“The matter of Nigeria is beyond genocide. Tinubu isn’t Trump’s friend from the onset, and what the US wants to do is negotiate with Tinubu for Nigeria’s resources.
“This matter needs to be addressed with patience because they will give Tinubu different options, but he must not do the wrong thing,” he said.
He explained that Nigeria can solve its problems if the government is ready, while noting that Trump’s concern isn’t a genuine one.
“It is only Nigeria that can solve its problems; a stranger can’t solve problems for Nigeria. Trump isn’t God; he just wants to make money. He is an oppressor.
“If the US has a genuine mission, they should work with the Nigerian government; the threat was unnecessary.”

She emphasised the importance of strategic partnerships in advancing large-scale infrastructure and energy projects.
According to her, in line with this goal, Woodhall Capital will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Forum of State Investment Promotion Agencies (FoSIPAN) and the National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) to strengthen sub-sovereign and sovereign partnerships. Additionally, the company is launching a multi-city investment road show, with planned stops in London, Dubai, and potentially Abu Dhabi, to unlock new financing opportunities.
“At the Abuja forum, we showcased the vast investment potential across Nigeria and emphasised the critical role of African Direct Investments (ADIs) in fostering self-reliance and boosting investor confidence among indigenous stakeholders,” Hunponu-Wusu said.
She noted that Woodhall Capital is also strengthening its presence in key financial hubs like London and Dubai, where it has established offices to deepen relationships with host governments and investors. Discussions at the forum focused on identifying viable investment opportunities and highlighting Nigeria’s economic potential.
Hunponu-Wusu underscored the importance of national pride and intra-African trade, advocating for increased collaboration among African nations. “When we invest in ourselves, we send a powerful message to the world about our confidence and capabilities,” she noted.
The event drew over 400 participants, including senior officials from the Vice President’s office, banks, and investment groups, demonstrating a growing appetite for cross-border collaboration in trade and investment.
She praised the Nigeria Governors’ Forum for its proactive role in engaging indigenous firms to tell Nigeria’s investment story, reinforcing the message that Africa is ready for meaningful investment dialogue.
Hunponu-Wusu also acknowledged the positive shift in Africa’s investment climate under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
“Africa is rich in talent and resources, and governments are increasingly open to strategic partnerships. This is the environment that encourages firms like ours to pursue global investment opportunities,” she said.
A key initiative in this effort is the Woodhall Africa Trade Gateway, a digital platform developed in partnership with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank). Designed to facilitate intra-African trade, the platform serves as a marketplace for sourcing commodities within the continent—an “African Amazon” for trade.
Addressing gender disparities in the industry, Hunponu-Wusu encouraged young African women to focus on adding value and honing their unique talents. “Recognition comes from genuine contributions, whether at home or in the workplace,” she advised.
She also highlighted Woodhall Capital’s commitment to supporting sub-national entities in attracting investment. “We plan to visit all 36 states in Nigeria to assess opportunities and collaborate with state governments in presenting these prospects to international investors,” she said.
This initiative aims to spotlight the unique investment potential of each state and drive inclusive economic growth across the country.
