Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State says Africa did not invade America when a black man was killed by US police personnel.

Soludo stated this in reaction to United States President Donald Trump’s threat to carry out military action in Nigeria following claims of a Christian genocide.

The governor, who stated this on Sunday, stressed that the security challenges in Nigeria go beyond a conflict between Muslims and Christians, adding that Trump’s threat of military intervention to “protect Christians in Nigeria” distorts the actual issues on the ground.

He emphasized the need for the Nigerian government to engage in a more substantive dialogue to address the concerns raised, noting that all relevant facts should be accurately presented.

Soludo further stated that if Nigeria were to seek foreign assistance, it should be through formal requests for military support, technology, or equipment, not through external threats, rejecting any notion of an invasion and argued that it would be equally absurd for African nations to threaten to invade the United States over incidents of racial violence.

“I am not quite sure if you have policemen killing some blacks. I remember the #BlackLivesMatter protested, and somebody would say maybe Africa should go and invade America because blacks are being killed? I’m not quite sure,” he said.

14 candidates sign peace accord ahead of Oyo NUJ election

No fewer than fourteen candidates contesting in the forthcoming election of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, have signed a peace pact.

The peace accord was signed by the candidates on Sunday in Ibadan, the state capital.

It was attended by the representative of the Commissioner of Police in the state, ACP Coker Shado; former Chairman of the union, Alhaji Soladoye Adewole; and the outgoing Chairman, Ademola Babalola.

DAILY POST gathered that the NUJ election has been fixed for December 9, 2025.

Our correspondent learnt that the peace accord became necessary to ensure a free and fair election.

The executive positions in the union are chairman, vice chairman, secretary, treasurer, financial secretary, assistant secretary and internal auditor.

Those who signed the peace accord include Adebayo Raji (Correspondents’ Chapel), Oladapo Olusola (Federal Ministry of Information), Akeem Abas (Correspondents’ Chapel), Atilola Abiodun (State Information), Adeniji Olamide (State Information), and Adu Dayo (FRCN).

Others are Imran Khalid (Oke-Ogun), Animashaun Rofiah (NTA), Ishola Olamiposi (BCOS), Adebayo Abdul Rofih (BCOS), Morenikeji Moses (FRCN), Oladipo Bosede (NFTV), Akinjola Olubode (BCOS), and Alimi Nurudeen (Nigerian Tribune).

DAILY POST reports that the fifteenth candidate, Nwaoko Samuel of the Nigerian Tribune newspaper, was absent at the peace accord.

Chairman of the credentials screening committee, Ismail Fasasi, while addressing the gathering, noted that the peace pact was necessary to ensure a free and fair election.

He urged the candidates and their supporters to maintain decorum and sportsmanship throughout the electoral process.

Fasasi said: “I urge all stakeholders to adhere to the principles outlined in the Peace Accord. Let us work together to create an environment that allows electorates to exercise their rights without fear or intimidation.”

President Donald Trump of the United States has repeated his threat of a military operation in Nigeria over the killings of Christians, after the Nigerian Presidency suggested a meeting to resolve the issue.

When asked if he was considering U.S. troops on the ground in Nigeria or air strikes, Trump replied: “Could be, I mean, a lot of things, I envisage a lot of things.

“They’re killing the Christians and killing them in very large numbers. We’re not going to allow that to happen,” he added.

DAILY POST recalls that Trump, in an explosive post on his Truth Social platform on Saturday, said that he asked the Pentagon to map out a possible plan of attack in Nigeria, one day after warning that Christianity was “facing an existential threat” in Africa’s most populous country.

According to Trump, if Nigeria does not stem the killings, the United States will attack and “it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians.”

Meanwhile, Daniel Bwala, spokesperson for Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu, stated on Sunday that Nigeria is America’s partner in the global fight against terrorism.

Bwala said that Nigeria welcomes U.S. support to fight terrorism as long as it respects its territorial integrity.
