The Nigeria Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Council Worldwide, NEYLWC, has urged the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, to sustain the fight against graft in the country.

The organisation spoke in reaction to the EFCC’s remarkable recovery of over N566 billion, along with other currencies and assets in the past two years.

According to them, such renewed commitment and resolve of the Commission to tackle economic and financial crimes, which had for too long plagued the nation, should be supported by all Nigerians.

It could be recalled that at the recent press briefing marking Mr. Olukoyede’s second anniversary in office, he announced the feat made under his leadership within two years.

Reacting, NEYLWC in a statement signed by Comrade Terry Obieh, its President General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, National Publicity Secretary, and Comrade Hamisu Muhammad Dass, Vice President, said as youth leaders of diverse ethnic nationalities across Nigeria, they “recognize the immense challenges faced by the EFCC, as well as the courage it takes to take bold steps against entrenched corruption in both public and private sectors”.

They extended full support to Mr. Olukoyede and the entire EFCC team in their relentless efforts to restore integrity to the nation’s financial systems.

“We encourage the EFCC to remain resolute and undeterred by any distractions, whether political or otherwise, in the pursuit of justice.

“The future of Nigeria depends on the eradication of corruption, and we believe that with Mr. Olukoyede at the helm, the EFCC will continue to make groundbreaking progress in ensuring that the rule of law prevails and that those who engage in financial crimes are held accountable.

“We also urge all well-meaning Nigerians to support the EFCC in its mission to create a transparent and accountable system.

“Our collective efforts in strengthening the fight against corruption will ensure that Nigeria’s resources are used to serve the people, particularly the youth, who are the future leaders of this great nation,” they further stated.

The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has said there will be a planned power outage in Maiduguri and nearby areas to allow maintenance work at the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP).

In a statement released on Monday, the company said the outage will last from Tuesday, November 4, to Friday, November 7, 2025 and power will be cut daily between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

YEDC explained that the shutdown will allow the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to conduct the third semi-annual inspection of the gas turbine as part of the ongoing Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA).

“During this period, Maiduguri and its surrounding areas will be out of supply,” the statement said.

The company appealed to customers for understanding, saying, that ” We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to ensure reliable and improved service delivery.”*

YEDC also advised residents to make necessary preparations and assured them that power would be restored immediately after the maintenance work is completed.

Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Issa-Onilu, has said the allegation of genocide by the US President, Donald Trump, is as a failure of intelligence.

The NOA DG said this is not the first time that the U.S intelligence failed, saying that it failed in Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan.

Issa-Onilu stated this Monday, at the monthly National Joint Security Press Briefing held in Abuja.

“An allegation of genocide against Christians in Nigeria by the President of the United States of America is not true. This is not the first time that the intelligence of the United States failed Americans. It failed in Iraq, it turned out that there was no weapon of mass destruction and they apologised, it failed them in Libya, I think this is another error in intelligence gathering,” he said.

The DG, while acknowledging that there are security challenges, said the killings are not targeted at any religion or tribe, adding that the government and security agencies are serious about ending insecurity in the country.

“Beyond that, we know that there are issues of insecurity in Nigeria and there are killings. However, the killings are not targeted at any religion and the government and security agencies are working round the clock to nip it in the bud.

“Just recently, the same United States commended Nigeria for the arrest of two major leaders of terrorist groups. We just listened to the NFIU on how Nigeria has been removed from the grey lists. Grey list means blacklist of countries that are not doing well in tracking movement of illicit funds. The international body in charge of that confirmed what Nigeria is doing in terms of tracking terrorism financing.”

The NOA boss further stated that the recent shake-up among Nigeria’s security chiefs demonstrated that the country was working seriously to strengthen its internal security and address communal and religious violence.

“A country that is not working seriously on the issue of security will not take such drastic steps as the President just took last week, changing the top echelons of the military to ensure that the system is rejigged and empowered to do more

“The same United States of America lifted the sanctions on the sale of arms to Nigeria. They are only to those countries that they believe are using the weapons responsibly,” he said.

Former senator and activist Shehu Sani has spoken out against any foreign military action in Nigeria after US President Donald Trump suggested such a step and called the country a disgraced country.

Sani posted a response on his X page, saying Nigeria will never be a disgraced country.

He warned that future generations will judge where people stood at moments like this.

“Some day we will all be gone. The future generations, including our children and grandchildren will read about all that we posted and ask questions about where we stood on the urgent and controversial matters in this moment of our lifetime,” he wrote.

He made clear he wants history to show his opposition to any outside military attack.

“I want history to record me among those who outrightly opposed, rejected and unreservedly condemned any act of Mr Trump’s foreign military aggression against my country under any guise, disguise or excuse,” Sani said.

Sani argued that calling Nigeria disgraced is wrong, saying people proud of their homeland would not accept that label.

“My country is not a disgraced country and will never be a disgraced country,” he wrote.

He also urged the US to reflect on its own history.

“We are not a nation that has ever colonised, enslaved or invaded any country or countries and dropped bombs and killed millions of people and plunder their resources. Without such record against other countries, we can’t be called disgraced,” Sani added.

Acknowledging Nigeria’s security problems over the last 15 years, Sani welcomed any help that genuinely supports Nigerian forces to defeat terrorists.

He also called on the Nigerian government to do more to protect citizens and secure the country.

“Lastly, I wish to call on the government of my country to step up efforts to protect the lives of our people and secure our country, which is the only country we can live without a visa or request for a visa. As a democrat, I respect but will never share the opinion of those who think otherwise, and want history to register them as supporters of foreign aggression. Thank you.”
