The Nigerian Army has denied social media reports claiming that photos released from its recent rescue operation in Kogi State were old.
In a statement on Tuesday, the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army said the pictures used in its earlier press release, titled “Troops of 12 Brigade Rescue Two Kidnapped Victims and Recover Ransom in Kogi State,” were genuine and taken during the operation on 2 November 2025.
“The images in question are authentic and were captured during the said operation conducted on 2 November 2025 by troops deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Oguma,” the statement signed by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi

The statement added that the photos contain verifiable geolocation data proving they were taken at the Achigili Forest, where the operation took place.
The army described the online claims as false and misleading, saying they were intended to discredit the efforts of its personnel and undermine public confidence.
It further assured Nigerians that it follows strict procedures in releasing media materials and that all photos and videos
are carefully verified before publication.
The statement urged the public to ignore the false reports and continue to support the army and other security agencies with credible information to help fight crime in Kogi State and across the country.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has said the Nigerian constitution does not allow religious persecution.
Tuggar made this statement on Tuesday at a press conference in Berlin, Germany.
He was reacting to United States President Donald Trump’s threat of military intervention over the killing of Christians in Nigeria.
“It’s impossible for there to be a religious persecution that can be supported in any way, shape or form by the government of Nigeria at any level,” he said.
DAILY POST recalls that Trump said on social media over the weekend that he had asked the Pentagon to map out a possible plan of attack because “they’re killing the Christians and killing them in very large numbers”.
However, Tuggar stated that Nigeria has a “constitutional commitment to religious freedom and rule of law”.
He warned against any attempts to divide Nigeria along religious lines, as he drew parallels with Sudan.
“What we are trying to make the world understand is that we should not create another Sudan.
“We’ve seen what has happened with Sudan with agitations for the partitioning of Sudan based on religion, based on tribal sentiments and you can see the crisis even when the partitioning was done according to religion or according to tribe,” Tuggar said.
Trump has not suggested any division of Nigeria along religious lines but claims that “thousands of Christians are being killed (and) Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter”.
Nigeria has denied that Christians have been targeted by jihadist attacks more than other faiths.

The Chief Executive Officer of Enhancing Financial Inclusion and Advancement (EFInA), Nigeria’s leading financial sector deepening organisation, Foyinsolami Akinjayeju, has been honoured with The Financial Inclusion Partner CEO of the Year Award at the second edition of the MSME Finance and CEO Awards 2025.
The prestigious event, organised by the Africa Global Economic Forum, serves as a platform to celebrate financial sector players and non-financial institutions, including non-state actors that are making significant contributions to MSME finance, financial inclusion, and entrepreneurship development.
The event brought together financial service institutions, Finance CEOs, Fintechs, policy makers, regulators, development partners and industry leaders across Nigeria’s MSME and financial inclusion ecosystem, who are driving access to finance and fostering the productivity and growth of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

This award comes on the heels of EFInA’s inauguration as a member of the Impact Advisory Group (IAG) on MSME Financing; a newly constituted group offering a technical support mechanism that will collaborate with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) to sustain reforms across research, policy advisory, advocacy, knowledge management, evidence generation, and ecosystem convenings, ensuring the scaling and sustainability of interventions such as that implemented by the Investment Climate Reform (ICR) Facility to SMEDAN; one of British Council’s programmes promoting an enabling environment for MSME development in Nigeria.
In addition, EFInA’s recent inclusion as a member of the Federal Steering Committee (FSC) of the Nigeria for Women Programme – Scale-Up Project (NFWP-SU), a Federal Government of Nigeria initiative in collaboration with the World Bank Group, further underscores the organisation’s commitment to inclusive finance and gender empowerment. This project aims to institutionalise women’s affinity groups and other platforms for women’s economic empowerment, expanding access to economic opportunities for unbanked and underserved women across 32 states.

A Federal High Court in Jalingo has freed 13 inmates who were held in the Taraba State Correctional Centre for between one and six years without trial.
Their release followed a lawsuit filed by human rights lawyer, Barrister John Nkemnagum Okezie, who represented them free of charge. He sued the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) for violating their fundamental rights.
In his ruling, Justice Maskur Salisu described the long detention of the inmates without trial as a gross violation of their constitutional rights.
“The prolonged detention of citizens without trial is not only unconstitutional but an affront to human dignity,” the judge declared.
He ordered their immediate release and awarded a total of ₦48m in damages to the 13 freed inmates.
The court officially enforced the order on November 3, 2025.
Justice Salisu further cautioned security agencies to operate within the confines of the law and uphold the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
Barrister Okezie told journalists that his motivation was to help decongest overcrowded prisons and ensure justice for the poor.
“This was a pro bono effort to make sure justice is not reserved for only those who can afford it,” he said.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has renewed calls for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan, warning that the situation in the war-torn country is rapidly worsening following the fall of a key city to paramilitary forces.
Speaking on Tuesday at the World Summit for Social Development in Doha, Guterres urged Sudan’s rival factions to embrace dialogue and end what he described as a “nightmare of violence”.
“The horrifying crisis in Sudan is spiralling out of control. I call on all sides to come to the negotiating table and bring an end to this senseless bloodshed, now,” the UN chief said.
His comments come after the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, RSF, locked in conflict with the Sudanese army since April 2023, captured the strategic city of El-Fasher late last month after an 18-month siege.
According to reports, the RSF’s takeover has been accompanied by widespread atrocities, including summary executions, sexual violence, looting, abductions, and attacks on humanitarian workers. Communication with residents in El-Fasher remains largely severed, raising fears of a worsening humanitarian catastrophe.
“El-Fasher and the surrounding areas in North Darfur have long been epicentres of suffering, hunger, and displacement. Since the RSF entered the city, the situation has deteriorated dramatically. Hundreds of thousands of civilians remain trapped, many dying from malnutrition, disease, and violence,” Guterres said.
He also condemned the ongoing violations of international humanitarian and human rights laws reported across Sudan, calling for urgent global attention to the crisis.
Turning to the Middle East, Guterres also expressed deep concern over fresh violations of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, which had brought a temporary end to more than two years of conflict.
The UN chief’s remarks followed reports of renewed Israeli airstrikes in Gaza, after the Israeli military said that three bodies retrieved from the enclave were not those of its hostages.
Hamas officials said over 100 people were killed in Israeli attacks last Tuesday, while another 45 died in earlier strikes on October 19, according to the territory’s civil defence agency.
“I am deeply troubled by the continued breaches of the Gaza ceasefire,” Guterres said. “These violations must stop, and all parties must fully comply with the terms of the first phase of the peace agreement.”

The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, has received the terms of settlement between Guardian Newspapers Nigeria Limited and Mr. Attah John Onoja, a senior officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, effectively ending a high-profile defamation suit earlier filed by the officer.
Onoja, who serves as Commander of the Mining Marshals, had sued Guardian Newspapers over a publication dated June 23, 2025, titled ‘Community Alleges Involvement of Mining Marshals in Illegal Mining’.
He described the report as false, malicious, and defamatory, and sought a court declaration to that effect, a public apology, retraction, injunction and N2 billion in exemplary damages.
Filed as suit number GWD/CV/177/25, the case has now been amicably resolved following the submission of Terms of Settlement jointly signed by both parties and their counsel.
According to the document, Guardian Newspapers acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the publication and agreed to delete the article, retract it, and publish a formal apology across its official website, social media platforms, and print edition.
The retraction, which must appear prominently on page 2 or 3 of the newspaper, will explicitly state that the earlier report was “unfounded, regretted, and not intended to impugn the Claimant’s integrity”.
As part of the agreement, the newspaper will also conduct and publish an exclusive interview with Onoja to highlight his professional contributions and achievements as Commander of the Mining Marshals.
Notably, Onoja in his magnanimity forfeited the monetary compensation that would have been paid, and released the paper from any future claims arising from the disputed publication.
The settlement, dated August 15, 2025, was signed by both parties. The FCT High Court has adopted the terms of settlement as consent judgment, thereby bringing the matter to a formal close.
