A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Joe Igbokwe has called on the United States, US President Donald Trump to withdraw his threat of military intervention in Nigeria.
Igbokwe was reacting to the threat by the US President, who urged the Nigerian government to immediately stop Christian genocide or face US military action in the country.
In a reaction posted on his Facebook page, Igbokwe said Trump is a giant in America but not Nigeria.
He wrote, “President Trump is the president of America and not the President of Nigeria. He may be a giant in America but not in Nigeria.
“Let President T know this and have inner peace. Trump can carry his arrogance to other countries but not Naija”.
There has been tension across the country following Trump’s threat.
The presidency had revealed that President Bola Tinubu would be meeting with Trump in the coming days to address the situation.

UN Approves Resolution Backing Morocco’s Plan For Western Sahara
United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has adopted a resolution supporting Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara.
The UNSC, in a United States-drafted text, on Friday called for the parties to engage in negotiations based on an autonomy plan first presented by Morocco to the UN in 2007.
According to the resolution, a genuine autonomy for Western Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty could be the most feasible solution to Rabat’s 50-year conflict with the Algeria-backed Polisario Front.
The US, which sponsored the resolution, led 11 countries in voting in favour, while three countries – Russia, China and Pakistan – abstained. Algeria, Polisario’s primary benefactor, opposed the measure.
Mike Waltz, the US ambassador to the UN, said the vote had been “historic” and would “build on the momentum for a long, long overdue peace in Western Sahara”.
“We urge all parties to use the coming weeks to come to the table and engage in serious discussions.We believe regional peace is possible this year, and we will make every effort to facilitate progress,” Waltz said.
Amar Bendjama, the Algerian ambassador to the UN, said that while the resolution was an improvement on previous iterations, it “still has a number of shortcomings”.
“It is below, below, I say, of the expectations and the legitimate aspirations of the people of Western Sahara, represented by the Polisario Front,” he said.
Although Friday’s vote was divided, the resolution offers the strongest endorsement yet for Morocco’s plan to keep sovereignty over the territory, which also has backing from most European Union members and a growing number of African allies.
The resolution refers to Morocco’s plan as a basis for negotiation as with similar resolutions in previous years, the text makes no mention of a referendum on self-determination that includes independence as an option.
The 11 council members vote in favour of the resolution also renewed for one year the mandate of the UN peacekeeping force in Western Sahara, known as the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO)
Western Sahara, a tract of desert the size of Britain, has been the scene of Africa’s longest-running territorial dispute since colonial power Spain left in 1975 and Morocco annexed the territory.
Morocco considers the territory its own while the Polisario Front seeks to establish an independent state called the Sahrawi Republic.
Morocco’s autonomy proposal would establish a local legislative, executive and judicial authority for Western Sahara elected by its residents, while Rabat would retain jurisdiction over defence, foreign affairs and religious matters.

A Catholic Priest, Fada Angelo Chidi Unegbu, has backed President Donald Trump’s decision to tackle the alleged massacre of Christians in Nigeria.

While some citizens, particularly Christians, are celebrating the move, others believe the security crisis in Nigeria has nothing to do with religion.
However, Fada Angelo in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Sunday claimed that himself and others “have been appealing to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu all this while to stop the killings”.
The Catholic priest said they have been reminding Tinubu that he has “all it takes to stop insecurity and injustice in Nigeria, but he paid deaf ears to our pleas”, stressing that “humans are slaughtered daily like cows”.
He argued that terrorists in Nigeria are “walking freely”, while “harmless agitators and protesters have either been killed by the same government or are in jail”.
In another post, the clergy said “if the US comes to our aid, the chances are 50/50, but if not, our doom is sealed”.
“And if the US doesn’t come, who will help us? What are the plans to stop the killings? Donald J. Trump, please come quickly”, he added.

Former Governor of Anambra State and candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2021 presidential election, Mr Peter Obi, has charged the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, to be fair in Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State.
Obi spoke to journalists at the weekend after joining the candidate of the Labour Party, Dr George Moghalu, in a campaign rally in Nnewi.
He charged Amupitan to uphold the credibility of his office and ensure fairness for all.
He reminded the chairman that how he discharged his job will impact on the name his children will carry on with in the future.
Obi said: “Our expectation is that with the new INEC chairman, we will start on the right note of a free, fair and credible election. I want the election to be free, fair and credible, let it be the wish of the people.
“I’m from Anambra State, and what can satisfy me is what I have just mentioned. I only urge the new INEC chairman to know that he is in a job where tomorrow people will judge him, and it is going to affect the name his children will bear forever. So it’s left for him to do the right thing.”
The former presidential candidate affirmed that he would run in 2027, while also clarifying the controversy about his membership of LP and ADC coalition, insisting he remains in Labour Party.
He said: “I’m an aspirant for the 2027 presidential election. I’m strictly a Labour Party member for now, I was only a part of the ADC coalition for presidential election in 2027, but I remain in Labour Party for now.
“I just joined my party members today to campaign for our candidate. I’m in Labour Party and my candidate is Dr George Moghalu.”
Obi expressed worry about the initial deployment of foul words by Anambra governorship candidates, insisting there was no need for such.
“I was worried at the tone of the campaign initially, and I remember reaching out to those who were in my party and calling on them to ensure that the campaign is based on issues. I told them to avoid name calling and things like that and that is where I stand.
“Beyond all these, all those you see campaigning today are my friends and there is no need for the foul words people are using against each other. I urge the people to assess the candidates and vote according to their conviction,” he said.

As the world marks 2025 International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Federal Capital Territory, FCT Council, has again called on government authorities, law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to ensure the safety, protection and dignity of media practitioners in Nigeria.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, the Secretary of the Council, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, condemned all forms of violence and intimidation targeted at journalists, describing them as an assault on democracy and freedom of expression.
According to the Council, this year’s observance of the Day is a solemn reminder of the continuing threats, harassment and violence faced by journalists in the line of duty, and the alarming lack of accountability for those responsible for such crimes.
It expressed deep concern that attacks on media practitioners, including intimidation, unlawful arrests, and physical assaults have continued to rise, often without justice being served.
“A society that silences its journalists silences the truth. We cannot build a transparent and accountable democracy when those who bring information to the public are constantly harassed, attacked, or unjustly detained,” the statement read.
The Council further urged the Federal Government and security agencies to demonstrate genuine commitment to ending impunity by thoroughly investigating all past and recent cases of attacks on journalists and prosecuting perpetrators, irrespective of their social or political standing.
It also called on state and non-state actors to respect the constitutional role of journalists, guaranteeing them the freedom to report without fear or interference, adding that the culture of impunity not only endangers journalists but also undermines the citizens’ right to know.
“Justice for journalists is justice for society. Every attack on a journalist is an attack on truth, accountability, and the people’s right to be informed,” the statement stressed.
The Council reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to defending press freedom, promoting journalists’ welfare, and working with relevant partners to ensure that all members of the press can carry out their duties safely and responsibly.
It also paid tribute to journalists who have suffered, been detained, or lost their lives in the pursuit of truth, urging society never to forget their sacrifice.
