Lagos Trade Fair market demolition test of impunity, justice – Peter Obi

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, has described the demolition of the ASPAMDA Market at the Lagos Trade Fair complex as a test of impunity, justice, and compassion.

Obi lamented that the demolition was carried out despite traders having obtained necessary approvals for their plazas.

He urged the government at all levels to act with fairness, justice, and compassion, noting that many of the affected traders had invested heavily, often through loans, to secure their livelihoods.

Obi, in a statement posted on X on Tuesday, said he visited the demolished market alongside Senators Enyinnaya Abaribe, Victor Umeh, among others.

The former Anambra State governor commended the traders for showing restraint in the face of their losses and praised lawmakers who pledged to investigate the incident.

“A society that seeks to make progress must protect enterprise, encourage productivity, and defend the dignity of its citizens. Incidents like this should have no place in a nation that aspires to fairness, stability, and shared prosperity,” part of Obi’s statement read.
