A 40-year-old man, Abiodun Femi, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing items valued at N2.1 million.

The defendant, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing a charge of stealing.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that Femi and others still at large allegedly committed the offence on September 22, at about 12:30 a.m., at Omolayo Standard Press, situated along Ikere Road, Ado-Ekiti.

According to him, the defendant and his accomplices allegedly broke into the company and carted away several items, including a platform scale worth N1.5 million, a counter scale valued at N160,000, and four scoops estimated at N40,000.

Other property allegedly stolen included four chairs valued at N400,000, four rugs worth N180,000, and an iron stool estimated at N40,000, bringing the total value to N2.1 million.

Oriyomi said the offence contravened Section 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021. He requested an adjournment to allow time to review the case file and prepare witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him. His counsel, Mr Gboyega Abiola, applied for bail, assuring the court that his client would not abscond.

Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until October 23 for hearing.

The Chairman of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, Rivers State Branch, Golden Ekprikpo Spiff, has been removed from office over allegations of gross misconduct.

Spiff was initially suspended by the branch, a decision later upheld by the National Working Committee, NWC, in a letter dated June 25, 2025, and signed by the branch’s Assistant Secretary.

His removal was finalized during the union’s last congress held in September 2025.

According to a letter signed by the Acting President of JUSUN, Marwan Mustapha Adamu, the state Vice Chairman of JUSUN, Princes Fyne Backo, was directed to assume office in acting capacity pending the outcome of an investigative panel set up by the National President.

Confirming the development in an interview with journalists, the former State Chairman of JUSUN, Anthony Nwachukwu, explained that Spiff failed to appear before the investigative panel set up to look into the allegations against him.

Nwachukwu, who is also a member of the State Working Committee of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, disclosed that the union congress unanimously voted in favor of Spiff’s removal.

He noted that since the Vice Chairman assumed office as Acting Chairman, several issues confronting the union had been addressed, and progress was already being made within a short period.

Nwachukwu said, “Within the one and six months he led, I’m sure you are aware that workers were having one or two issues and the tempo of the union went very low.

“And as a result, workers decided they can’t fold their hands and watch things go low. And they decided to take action.

“The action they took was doing a letter to the national and asking that he be removed. And the national ratified the letter.

“And then he has been suspended. And recently there was a congress on the 26th of September and the congress ratified that the acting chairman continue to be our chairman till the end of the tenure.

He added, “To my own surprise, since the acting chairman came into power, there are issues that have been lying unattended to, the woman has swung into action and those issues have been resolved.

“I’m telling you, most of our staff have not taken their salaries for the month of August, within just one week now, she swung into action and salaries have been paid to everybody.

“She’s doing a lot of work. She’s meeting and making sure the welfare issues that have been so low, that have been lying low is being reawakened.”

In a letter dated October 2, 2025, and signed by his counsel, Dr. Sonny Ajala, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Otti accused Chikamnayo of persistently making “unjustified demonic online defamatory publications” against him on his Facebook account titled “Iyierioba Chikamnayo.”

The publications include posts captioned “Alex Otthief is a confirmed criminal and disaster”, posted on September 22, 2025 and “Fighting Promax”, on September 21, 2025.

Others such are: “Old or new Abia”, shared on September 14, 2025, “Sabbath Message”, on September 13, 2025 and “Alex Otthief is a confirmed criminal and congenital liar- looting governor”, on August 15, 2025.

Ajala said for the avoidance of doubt, Otti “is the only Governor and Chief Executive of a State within the 36 States of Nigeria who bears the name Alex Chioma Otti, thus no effort is required by members of the public to link all your spiteful, false and defamatory attacks to our client either by direct name calling or by other variant of the name Alex Chioma Otti by way of caricature, pun, simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia and/or metonymy…”

The SAN affirmed that Otti’s integrity has remained sterling over the years.

The letter recounted how Otti was confronted with the post on September 29, 2025, while in Abuja attending the conferment of the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria on Abia State’s Attorney-General.

Ajala said Otti’s attention was called to Chikamnayo’s Facebook wall where he found “a cocktail of disparaging publications calculated to instigate public hatred against him.”

Ajala, in the letter, stressed that his client “unequivocally denies in their entirety your malicious defamatory materials published online” adding that “he (Otti) has no criminal indictment whatsoever or conviction by any court of law and thus declares unequivocally that the content of your online publications generally and specifically… as blatant falsehood.”

The SAN further argued that Chikamnayo’s actions amounted to “unquantifiable mental torture, depression, denigration, brutal destruction of his reputation built over the decades” and “utterly disfigured and diminished our client’s standing in the eyes and estimation of right-thinking persons.”

Governor Otti’s demands include a written retraction of all defamatory posts to be published on the same Facebook wall as well as in four national dailies.

He also requested a written apology to be published on the same Facebook wall, compensation of N100 billion for reputational damage, and an undertaking to cease and desist from any further defamatory publications.

Ajala warned: “Take very careful notice that should you fail, refuse and/or ignore to comply with our demands as contained herein within seven (7) days from the delivery of this letter… we shall without further recourse to you seek legal redress for the appropriate remedy against you for your malicious online libelous publication against our client graphically recounted herein.”

The lawyer is yet to respond to the letter as of the time of filing this report.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has destroyed counterfeit, expired, and unwholesome drugs valued at over N15 billion at the Moniya dumpsite in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The destruction exercise, held on Wednesday, was aimed at preventing these hazardous products from re-entering the market and posing risks to public health.

Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, NAFDAC Director-General, stated the seriousness of the agency’s ongoing crackdown on illegal pharmaceutical operations.

Represented at the event by Dr Martins Iluyomade, NAFDAC’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Adeyeye revealed that the destroyed products included counterfeit, banned, unregistered, controlled, and expired medicines.

Among the items were Analgin, Co-codamol, codeine-based cough syrups, Tramadol, Oxytocin, and several expired vaccines, all posing severe health hazards.

She pointed out a recent seizure in which a container falsely labeled as diclofenac was found to contain anti-malarial drugs, over 100,000 tablets in 277 cartons, smuggled into the country.

“The suspect linked to this shipment has been arrested and will face prosecution,” Adeyeye said, stressing the need to deter illegal drug importers and distributors.

The NAFDAC chief also disclosed that during a separate operation at a military barracks in Lagos, the agency seized illegally manufactured cosmetics and packaging materials.

Other confiscated items were recovered during nationwide raids targeting black-market drug sellers, counterfeiters, and unlicensed medicine outlets.

Adeyeye urged Nigerians, especially community leaders, healthcare professionals, religious figures, and journalists, to educate the public about the dangers of patronizing unlicensed drug vendors and unregistered pharmaceutical outlets.

She called for citizen participation in reporting suspicious activities to strengthen regulatory oversight and protect public health.

The exercise also included more than 25 seized 40-foot containers provided by the Nigeria Customs Service, containing prohibited items such as Tramadol, Artesunate injections, and frozen poultry.

“These products form part of today’s destruction, marking another victory in our fight against harmful and illegal substances,” Adeyeye stated.

She also commended the support of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services, DSS, Pharmacists Council of Nigeria, PCN, and other agencies in NAFDAC’s regulatory mission.

The Benue State Government has officially introduced its Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, Policy, describing it as both a historic step and a source of renewed hope for thousands forced from their homes by violence and natural disasters.

Speaking at the launch held at the Government House in Makurdi, Governor Hyacinth Alia recalled that upon taking office two years ago, he promised to prioritize the safe return and reintegration of displaced persons.

According to him, with backing from international partners, the state has already recorded progress in areas such as shelter provision, humanitarian aid, and protection services.

Benue, widely regarded as Nigeria’s “food basket,” has grappled with waves of displacement for years, with new families continuously seeking refuge in makeshift camps, thereby dimming hopes of normal life returning soon.

That reality may begin to change, however, with the unveiling of the state’s comprehensive IDP policy, supported financially by Save the Children.

Governor Alia, represented at the event by Deputy Governor Sam Ode, said the initiative represents a transition from emergency relief to recovery and from temporary aid to long-term resilience.

He further emphasized that the framework is “a social contract between government, partners, and displaced communities,” aimed at ensuring that affected persons remain at the core of all interventions.

Reassuring displaced citizens, the governor declared: “You are not forgotten, you are not alone, your resilience inspires us, your future is at the heart of this policy and our durable solutions action plan.”
