Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has dissolved all statutory and non-statutory boards and commissions in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Enobong Uwah, made the announcement on Thursday in Uyo, the state capital.
The SSG stated that Governor Eno acted under the Statutory Boards (Special Provisions) Law, 2023, adding that the decision takes immediate effect.
“The governor wishes members of the dissolved boards and commissions well in their future endeavours.
“The governor commends them for the roles they have played towards achieving the promises contained in the ARISE agenda,” Uwah said.
The SSG also directed the chairpersons of the defunct agencies to hand over government property in their custody to the most senior officer in their establishments.
The governor had, during a media briefing to mark the 37th anniversary of the state’s creation in 2024, hinted at the looming dissolution of the state executive council, including statutory and non-statutory boards.
According to the governor, the dissolution would not come as a surprise to the commissioners who had dedicated their time and energy to the state’s development.
He added that he was “waiting for the right time” to hold a valedictory session to appreciate the commissioners and board members for their contributions to the growth of the state.

Kwara: Gov Abdulrazaq visits, sympathises with communities over bandits attacks
Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State on Thursday visited Oke Ode in Ifelodun Local Government Areas to once again commiserate with the community and the families who lost their loved ones to the recent attacks by armed kidnappers.
DAILY POST reports that last Sunday’s attack on the Ogba-Ayo community of Oke-Ode town in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state claimed 12 lives, including the Baale of Ogba-Ayo, while an unspecified number of people were also abducted.
The governor, who was accompanied by security chiefs and top government officials, prayed for the repose of the souls, commended the security forces for their efforts, and reassured the community that peace would be restored in no distant time.
A statement by his spokesman, Rafiu Ajakaye, in Ilorin on Thursday disclosed that the governor also sent words of condolence and solidarity to all the communities caught in the breaches, from Ifelodun to Irepodun, Isin, Ekiti, Edu, and Patigi Local Government Areas.
“We have come to commiserate with the community over the attacks. It is to also commend the security forces, forest guards, and vigilantes for repelling them and restoring peace back to the community,” he said.
“It has been quite challenging. Everything is being put in place to mitigate its effects, and make sure we end such occurrences.”
In his entourage were the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo; State Director of DSS; State Commandant of NSCDC, Dr Umar Mohammed; Senior Special Assistant on Security, Muyideen Aliyu; and Chairman of Ifelodun LGA, Femi Yusuf.
The governor received briefings from security officers and some stakeholders from Oke Ode and neighbouring Igbaja, including the National President of Oke Ode Development Association, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Ajala; Elder Oyin Zubair; and the youth leader.
The governor had earlier issued a statement to commiserate with the affected communities, saying that much more must be done to protect the people and their property.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, has urged women nationwide to support female candidates in the 2027 general elections.
Adeleye emphasised that the fight for inclusion cannot wait until election season and must begin immediately.
She made the call at the 9th Voice of Women Conference and Awards held in Abuja on Thursday.
The commissioner who spoke during the Fireside Chat session themed ‘Breaking Barriers through the Power of Community’, stated that women must rediscover their historic collective strength to shift Nigeria’s political landscape.
She noted that women with resources are better able to navigate Nigeria’s money-driven political landscape, establishing economic empowerment as the cornerstone of political engagement.
“If a single woman could once gather all women to stop what she felt was unfair, that collective power has always been there. At some point, we lost it. We have to come together as one. Nobody can walk alone to achieve the desired goal of women.
“When women who couldn’t afford land to farm before have come together to get land and are making money, that economic empowerment is key.
“When you have money, politics is easier. Money is important,” she said.
Adeleye pointed to the Nigeria for Women Project, a World Bank-supported initiative piloted in Ogun State, as evidence of how grassroots mobilization can translate into political influence.
Through affinity groups, she said, women have pooled resources, accessed farmland, and trained in leadership, enabling them to back candidates in local elections.
Adeleye also addressed structural imbalances in Nigeria’s political system, arguing that equity — not just equality — is the pathway forward.
“There cannot be equality without equity. Men already have 95 percent of leadership. We must first talk about equity to catch up,” she declared, underscoring the need for deliberate policies to correct historical gender exclusion.
Dispelling a prevalent myth that women don’t help one another, the commissioner called for collaboration between urban and rural women, stressing that bridging gaps will increase women’s power before 2027.
“For every woman standing for election in your state, support her. If you are not contesting, support those who are. Women have the power, the tenacity, and the resilience to make it,” Adeleye stated.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has said that the process for the appointment of judges in the country is becoming more open and transparent.
A statement by the media aide to the CJN, Mr. Tobi Soniyi, said Kekere-Ekun made the above observation while presenting a paper, titled: ‘Innovations in judicial practice: Embracing change for a better future,’ at the Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges’ Association Triennial Conference held in Banjul, capital of The Gambia.
The National Judicial Council (NJC), at its 108th meeting held between April 29 and 30, had approved a landmark policy to publish the names of candidates under consideration for appointment as judicial officers, while at the same time inviting the public for contribution.
Meanwhile, Kekere-Ekun, who is also the chairman of the NJC, in her presentation, told the gathering that the policy adopted by the NJC was to introduce an additional layer of transparency into the process of appointing judges.
The move, according to the CJN, is to ensure that members of the public and other relevant stakeholders are able to raise objections, provide information, or endorse nominees before appointments are finalized.
She also said that the move is a deliberate effort to strengthen accountability, enhance public trust, and align Nigeria’s appointment procedures more closely with international best practices, including those recommended in the Constitution Hill Guidelines.
The Constitution Hill Global Guidelines on Apex Court Appointments, published in September 2024, provide globally for a set of baseline principles tailored to the singular role of apex courts as the final arbiters of constitutional interpretation and guardians of democratic governance.
Justice Kekere-Ekun noted that members of the public are already taking advantage of the initiative as shown in the last exercise for the appointment of judicial officers conducted by the NJC.
“In a plural society such as Nigeria, with over 200 million citizens across different ethnic, religious and linguistic identities, the visibility of diversity on the Supreme Court bench strengthens public confidence and assures citizens that the judiciary reflects the society it serves,” the statement quoted the CJN as saying.
Kekere-Ekun however admitted that there are still some challenges, despite several efforts to strengthen the appointment of judicial officers, adding that some of the challenges include executive delays in acting on recommendations for appointments made by the NJC, which, she said, could impair the court’s capacity to sit at full strength.
Other challenges, she added, include the requirement for security vetting and the interpretation of federal character requirements, which often sparks debate about whether merit is being compromised for inclusivity.
The CJN however assured the audience, among whom were Chief Justices of Commonwealth countries, that Nigeria will continue to appoint to the bench only people who satisfy constitutional, professional and ethical standards.
Justice Kekere-Ekun, while in The Gambia, also visited the Nigeria High Commission in Banjul, where she was received by the chargé d’affaires, Muhammed Mainasara Usma; Head of Chancery, Amali Musa and other members of staff of the commission.
