Unaccredited ADR Organisations are Issuing Illegal, Invalid Certificates, Training Institute Reveals

The Mediation Training Institute (MTI-Nigeria) has said there are several Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) organisations that have not been registered with the Centre for Management Development (CMD) and yet are operating in full terms.

It also stated that any and every organisation that claims to be “Chartered” but has not sent a Bill to the National Assembly to be passed by both Houses and accompanied by Presidential Assent is speculative, deceptive and misleading the public.

President of the Mediation Training Institute, Dr. Segun Ogunyannwo said such organisations, no matter their might and standing are operating illegally and must see the need to register with the CMD.

In a statement signed yesterday, Ogunyannwo also stated that such organisations are not qualified to train, issue certificates and induct practitioners aside they have not been accredited to do so.

He said candidates who end up having certificates from such unaccredited institutions will not be able to upload them locally and internationally. 

According to him, “It has come to our notice that a number of organisations within the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Space are operating Illegally. They are not registered with the Centre for Management Development (CMD)

“Any and every organisation that is conducting mediation and other ADR training or any other professional training for that matter in Nigeria and is not registered with the Centre for Management Development (CMD) is operating Illegally; irrespective of the name of the organisation.

“Also, any and every organisation that claims to be “Chartered” but has not sent a Bill to the National Assembly to be PASSED by both Houses and accompanied by Presidential Assent is at best speculative; at worst deceptive and an attempt to mislead the public.

“It is therefore imperative that before registering and attending any professional training and accreditation course that you find out first if the organisation is registered with the Centre for Management Development (CMD). Let them show you proof of same.”

He added that, “The National Council for Management Development (NCMD) Act 2022 requires that individuals, Institutions and organisations providing Training and Consultancy services be registered with the Centre for Management Development (CMD).

UNICAL Alumni Inaugurate Multi-million Naira Starlink Facility for Students

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has received a significant boost in teaching and learning as the members of the University Alumni from Sets 80-85 on Thursday inaugurated a multi-million naira Starlink Internet facility at the Malabor, where the students hostels are located on campus.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Florence Obi, praised the 1980 to 1985 Sets for their act of generosity which she described as invaluable.

Prof. Obi who was represented by the university’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Okafor (Research, Linkages and Collaborations), said: “Our students will now have 24/7 high-speed internet access to knowledge, research, and opportunities without borders.

“This initiative will shape lives for generations and sets a shining example of what alumni can achieve when they give back.”

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, BOT, of the 80-85 Sets Association, Mrs. Elizabeth Omang, who was represented by Dr. Arnold Udoka, said that trends and the world has changed tremendously since the sets graduated from UNICAL (Malabar) in the mid 1980s.

While urging the students in UNICAL, especially those residing in Malabor to put the Starlink facility to effective use, the BOT chairman said: “We hope this facility will empower you to dream big, research deeper, and compete globally. It is our hope that this facility will empower you to dream big, to research deeper, and to compete globally.”

Also speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Network Systems, NSI Technologies Ltd and Consultant to the project, Engr. Ebi Deisah, said the facility would provide the students with access to global digital libraries, as well as enhance their research capabilities.

Deisah said the Starlink Internet service would assist the students to subscribe fast to pools of information available online beyond Nigeria.

20 AAU Students Receive Opay’s N1.2bn Scholarship Grant

Twenty students of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, have received N300,000 each as beneficiaries of the N1.2 billion OPay National Scholarship Initiative for undergraduates.

The disbursement was facilitated for AAU by the Edo State Government through the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Opay said that the N1.2 billion national scholarship initiative was aimed to ease the financial burden on indigent students and promote access to quality education.

The initiative, launched earlier this year to support undergraduates across 20 universities, targeted students from low-income families to advance SDG 4 on quality education.

The scholarship programme will run for a period of 10 years.

Speaking on the disbursements, Special Adviser to Governor Monday Okpebholo on SDGs, Ms. Sally Suleiman, described the initiative as a landmark achievement.

She said although the process took some time, the fulfilment and commitment mark a new dawn for indigent students in AAU, giving them hope and support in their academic journey.

“This is more than just the announcement of a grant, it is proof that our promises are being fulfilled. 

“As we approach one year in office, this achievement stands as one of the milestones in our administration’s commitment to inclusive development,” Suleiman said, adding the effort reinforced Edo State’s alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).

Expressing the state government’s appreciation to OPay Digital Services for the partnership, she also lauded Governor Okpebholo for his continued leadership and vision in delivering opportunities to Edo people.

One of the beneficiaries, Blessing Iyoha, a 100-level Human Anatomy student, said the payment brought huge relief.

“I am going to use it to pay my school fees, and I won’t have to bother my parents too much this semester,” she said.

Another beneficiary, Victory Eshere, a 200-level Biochemistry student, noted that the scholarship would support her in many aspects of her academic journey.

Sokoto State Government has joined forces with the United Nations Children’s Education Fund (UNICEF) to sensitise citizens on the importance of measles-rubella and polio vaccines.

This collaborative effort aims to educate parents on the safety and effectiveness of these vaccines in protecting children against deadly diseases.

The stakeholders’ meeting, held at the Specialist Hospital in Sokoto, brought together healthcare professionals, government officials, and Journalists and social media influencers 

 Health Promotion Officer Mr. Sabiu Shehu, emphasised the need for parents to make their children available for routine vaccination next week.

Shehu reassured parents that the vaccines are safe and effective, highlighting the importance of protecting children against measles-rubella and polio. “These diseases can have severe consequences, including pneumonia, brain damage, and even death.”

The vaccination exercise will kick off in the Bodinga Local Government Area and will be conducted simultaneously across all 23 local government areas in the state.

He said healthcare workers will be deployed to cover every part of the state, ensuring that no child would be left behind.

“The goal is to vaccinate approximately two million children, a significant undertaking that requires the support and cooperation of parents, healthcare workers, and community leaders,” he added.

Shehu urged parents to take advantage of this opportunity to protect their children against these deadly diseases. He emphasised that vaccination is a crucial step in ensuring the health and well-being of children.

The Sokoto State Government and UNICEF are committed to making this vaccination drive a success. By working together, they aim to create a healthier and more prosperous future for the children of Sokoto.
