Abuja-based human rights lawyer, Barr. Christopher Chidera, has claimed that the court in Finland did not mention the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, while convicting self-styled IPOB Prime Minister, Simon Ekpa.

The lawyer, while trying to break down the judgement to some journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, said the Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland convicted Ekpa for incitement, tax fraud, and professional misconduct, none of which, according to him, was linked to IPOB.

He raised serious concerns on what he called “malicious propaganda” being orchestrated against Nnamdi Kanu and what he called a legitimate campaign by IPOB.

The lawyer specifically noted “the malicious article published on iBrandTV and authored by Marshal Bassey under the false and misleading headline ‘Simon Ekpa’s Conviction: How the Igbo Biafra Dream Died a Natural Death’” on Monday, describing it as a “hatchet piece.”

He noted that the “fabrication collapsed under the weight of verifiable judicial records. It is propaganda designed to dampen the resilient spirit of Biafrans but instead exposes the intellectual emptiness of its author and his sponsors.”

He explained that the Finnish Court Judgment did not find IPOB wanting while it sentenced “Simon Ekpa personally to six years’ imprisonment on charges of participation in a terrorist organization, incitement, tax fraud, and professional misconduct.”

He pointed out that, “The Court never mentioned IPOB in its ruling. IPOB testified under oath that Ekpa was never a member and held no office in the movement.

“Ekpa himself admitted under oath that he was only a ‘content creator’ and had long disowned IPOB. If IPOB were guilty, Finland had the perfect opportunity to indict it. The Court declined to do so because no evidence exists against IPOB. This silence is itself exoneration,” he stated.

He frowned at what he called the article’s “reckless attempt to bury the Biafra dream through falsehood,” describing it as “pitiful.”

He said the author of the article “deliberately ignored the legal reality that IPOB is a lawful registered movement in Finland, operating transparently within the ambit of international law.

“His article is nothing but a paid smear job designed to launder Nigeria’s image while defaming IPOB.

He restated that, “IPOB is not, and has never been, a terrorist group. IPOB is a global self-determination movement anchored in law and justice.”

He warned that, “Any further attempts to defame IPOB will be met with lawsuits, international petitions, and reputational demolition.”

The Osun State Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, has appealed to all members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ife Federal Constituency to allow the leadership of the party to facilitate a swift and amicable resolution of the party crisis.

Adewusi stated that the development was a storm in a teacup.

DAILY POST had reported earlier that the party in the Federal Constituency had passed a vote of no confidence on Adewusi and two other PDP chieftains for alleged anti-party activities.

However, reacting to the development, the Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, in a statement on Tuesday, called for calm over the development.

Bisi also called on party members in Ife Federal Constituency to suspend further actions capable of escalating the situation.

The Osun Deputy Governor, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Goke Awoyemi, on Wednesday, said the internal disagreements are embedded in general party politicking.

He also said the issue must never be allowed to distract the party members from their core mission of serving the people of Osun State.

The statement reads in part:

“The attention of the office of the Deputy Governor, Osun State, Prince Kola Adewusi, has been drawn to various media publications on a seeming crisis that reportedly erupted at a meeting in Ife East Local Government Area among the political gladiators in Ife Federal Constituency zone, insinuating the vote of no confidence and suspension of His Excellency, Prince Kola Adewusi, Deputy Governor, Osun State, and a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, Professor Wale Oladipo.

“We wish to bring it to the awareness of the general public that inasmuch as internal wranglings are embedded in party politicking, this should strengthen the system and our collective reasoning, and should not be allowed to weaken our collective effort in serving our immediate communities and society at large.”

While appealing for both sides to sheath their swords and allow the top hierarchy of the party to pacify the aggrieved, Adewusi said this is not the season to celebrate a crisis and promote one, but a time to put efforts together and gear up towards working with a view to celebrating our hardworking and highly performing Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory in August 2026.

“To the public media space that has been awash with this unpleasant report, we also want them to see the same as a minor family affair that will be resolved in a family way.

“When we quarrel with our wives before leaving home in the morning, we come to an amicable settlement in the other room when we return at night. It is a storm in a teacup,” the statement added.

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Hamisu Muhammad Gumel, stated this in a press statement issued to DAILY POST on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the Governor disclosed this in Senegal when he led a high-powered delegation to the Africa Food Systems Summit in Dakar to explore new agricultural partnerships aimed at transforming the state’s food systems and driving inclusive economic growth.

He explained that agriculture is a central pillar of his administration’s 12-Point Agenda under the vision of building “a Greater Jigawa.”

“Jigawa is already Nigeria’s leading producer of wheat, rice, sesame, and hibiscus flower,” Namadi said.
