Princes of Ipetumodu running houses are set to convene on Tuesday to deliberate on the fate of the convicted Apetumodu of Ipetumodu, Oba Joseph Olugbenga Oloyede.

DAILY POST gathered that there is mounting tension in Ipetumodu town, headquarters of Ife North local government council area of the state.

Oba Oloyede was in August, 2025, sentenced in the United States to more than four years in prison after being found guilty of fraud related to COVID-19.

The US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio, alleged that Oba Oloyede led a conspiracy to exploit COVID-19 emergency loan programmes designed to assist struggling businesses.

US District Judge Christopher A. Boyko in his judgment ordered that the monarch serve an additional three years of supervised release upon completion of his prison term.

The traditional ruler was also directed to pay $4,408,543.38 in restitution.

Since the ruling, an uneasy calm has descended on Ipetumodu town, with many residents awaiting a clear stance from the state government.

The state government, under Governor Ademola Adeleke had also stated that it would could study the Certified True Copy, CTC, of the judgment before coming out with a decision on the matter.

According to the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dosu Babatunde, “the government would obtain a Certified True Copy of the judgment before taking any decision on the stool.”

Princes from the two ruling houses in the town; Akinbile, from which Oba Oloyede hails, and Fagbemokun; it was gathered are already harmonising their positions ahead of Tuesday’s gathering.

It was revealed that three groups have emerged among the princes.

Some within Akinbile argued the throne should remain with them since Oba Oloyede’s reign was cut short, while others propose that one of those who previously contested the stool should now ascend.

Conversely, Fagbemokun princes insist the next Apetumodu must come from their lineage, given that Akinbile produced the jailed monarch.

A prince from Akinbile, who preferred anonymity, said, “There is apprehension already. There is suspicion, and many people are displeased that there is no concrete position regarding the next step after Oba Oloyede’s conviction in the U.S. There are many camps among the princes already. We can only hope the Tuesday meeting won’t be disrupted.”

It was gathered that the meeting will take place at the Apetumodu palace and be presided over by the Asalu of Ipetumodu, Chief Sunday Adedeji.

Confirming the development, the Secretary of the Fagbemokun Ruling House, Prince Sunday Taiwo, said his family met earlier to deliberate on maintaining peace in Ipetumodu and within their royal household.

“Every second Tuesday of the month, we have a meeting of princes in Ipetumodu. The next one holds next Tuesday,” Taiwo said.

Prince Olaboye Ayoola of the Akinbile Ruling House stated that the matter of Oba Oloyede would dominate the discussions.

“There will be a meeting of princes on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m., and it will focus on the issue of Oba Oloyede. The meeting, which is a regular monthly gathering, will be chaired by Chief Asalu.

“It will centre on Oba Oloyede and the next line of action. It is unlikely that we, the Akinbile family, will meet before then. Our own meeting will come up after Tuesday’s gathering,” he added.

On his part, the Programme Director of the 1Government Cloud, Mr Wumi Oghoetuoma, emphasised that the project is designed to drive efficiency and transparency in governance.

“The paperless governance initiative will eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks by streamlining approvals and inter-agency communication.

“It will significantly cut costs associated with printing, storage, and distribution of physical files, while enhancing transparency and accountability in public service delivery,” Oghoetuoma said.

He further noted that the programme enhances the security of sensitive government documents through encrypted digital storage and accelerates decision-making across MDAs.

“With MDAs uniting under a single vision to improve service delivery, one of the key performance indicators of the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Nigeria is laying the foundation for a seamless digital government ecosystem,” he added.

According to him, the mandate of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF) to achieve a fully paperless civil service by December 2025 is clear and achievable. He commended the Office of the HCSF for adopting a phased approach that prioritises staff training and optimised IT infrastructure as prerequisites for large-scale adoption.

This milestone underscores Nigeria’s commitment to modernising public service delivery, strengthening data sovereignty, and aligning with global best practices in digital governance.

A senior civil servant at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who requested anonymity, highlighted the platform’s importance for Nigeria’s diplomacy.

He noted that adopting a sovereign platform will “strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic communication systems and enhance the country’s ability to respond swiftly to international engagements.”

Pioneering this landmark initiative are key federal government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), including the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy; the Ministry of Solid Minerals; the Ministry of Steel Development; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Federal Ministry of Justice; the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria; and the Federal Ministry of Intergovernmental Affairs, among others soon to follow.

Umuaka Asa community in Ukwa West LGA of Abia State has installed a shrine to protect public property in the area from being vandalized or stolen by criminal elements.

The community also said that its traditional ruler, Eze Sunday Nwogu was not involved in the sale of a transformer donated to them by the NDDC, as claimed by the Eze’s opponents.

The traditional Prime Minister of Umuaka Asa, Sampson Nwaigwe, who reacted to the allegations leveled against the Eze Sunday Nwogu, recalled how armoured cable in an electric transformer was vandalized by criminals, among other incidents of theft of peoples property in the community.

According to the Traditional Prime Minister, it was the spike in theft and vandalism that prompted the community to install the shrine to scare and prevent thieves from further destroying or stealing people’s property.

He dismissed the claims that the shrine was installed to stop Christians from freely practicing their religion as widely reported in the media recently.

Also speaking, the Commander of Umuaka Vigilante Networking, Nwokeukwu Damian, said that Armoured Cables that were vandalized by criminal elements were later recovered, stating that the shrine was installed to help protect the community against criminals.

The Umuaka Asa people alleged that an individual, who contested and lost the Ezeship Throne to Eze Sunday Nwogu, was sponsoring negative reports against the traditional ruler.

They further maintained Christians and people of other religions have always been living peacefully in the community without harassment or infringement.
