Benue: Akume urges Jechira political leaders to rally support for Tinubu in 2027

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen George Akume, has appealed to political stakeholders from the Jechira axis of Benue State to unite in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the 2027 elections approach.

Akume made the appeal at his Maitama residence in Abuja during a courtesy visit by prominent Jechira leaders drawn from across political divides, including the APC, PDP, Labour Party, and others.

The delegation was led by Sen. Dr. Jack Tilley-Gyado.

Speaking for the group, Elder Abaki Julius Korapera (Upper Jechira), Dr. Sarwuan Tarnongo (Lower Jechira), and Prof. Dennis Ityavyar (representing all parties) hailed Tinubu’s appointment of Akume as SGF, describing it as “well-deserved.”

They pledged loyalty to the administration and vowed to mobilize electoral support for the President in 2027.

The leaders also applauded Akume’s influence in ensuring that Jechira produced the current Benue governor.

They urged that the governorship seat remain in Jechira beyond the current tenure, pointing out that other zones had already held two complete terms.

They also expressed gratitude to Jemgbah leaders for consistently backing Jechira’s political aspirations.

In his remarks, Sen. Tilley-Gyado commended President Tinubu for recognizing Akume as an indispensable member of his administration and for appointing other Benue natives to strategic offices.

He also acknowledged ongoing infrastructure projects in the state, affirming the bloc’s loyalty to Akume’s leadership direction ahead of 2027.

Responding, Akume thanked the delegation for the show of solidarity, reaffirming his dedication to inclusive and purposeful governance “devoid of ill-feeling, regardless of provocation.”

The paramount ruler of the Tyoshin people, Chief Abomtse Daniel, has demanded the replacement of military troops with Mobile Police personnel in Gwer-West Local Government Area of Benue State.

Chief Daniel made the call after suspected herdsmen allegedly re-invaded several communities, destroying farmlands, including his own.

Speaking in a video circulating online, the monarch said the presence of the military had failed to curb the attacks and insisted that Mobile Police units would be more effective in securing the area.

He warned that the renewed invasions were crippling agricultural activities in Gwer-West, a major food hub of the state, and could lead to hunger and displacement if urgent action was not taken.

Chief Daniel urged both the Benue State Government and the Federal Government to intervene immediately to protect lives, property, and the state’s agricultural backbone.

Former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that 30 million Nigerians have fallen into poverty and agriculture has been destroyed under President Bola Tinubu.

He disclosed this during an interview with Channels Television on Sunday.

“The one that is here now, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that we all supported to be president, has been given the opportunity. What are the results?

“We have moved the exchange rate from N400 to N1,600; 30 million people have fallen into poverty. Agriculture has been destroyed because of stupid policies of making food cheaper through importation,” he said.

He added, “I am not the only person qualified to call it evil because I know evil when I see it.”

DAILY POST reports that the foreign exchange rate stood at N1,531.57 at the official market as of last Friday.

In 2022, the National Bureau of Statistics reported that 133 million Nigerians were multidimensionally poor. The agency is yet to announce any updated figure.
