Access ARM Pensions Intensifies Sensitisation on Retirement Security

Access ARM Pensions has intensified its awareness campaign on the benefits of Additional Voluntary Contributions (AVCs), urging Nigerians to adopt the scheme as a means to achieve financial stability in retirement.

The firm made the call during a virtual seminar with the theme: ‘Boost Your Retirement: Making the Most of Additional Voluntary Contribution’, where participants were sensitised on how AVCs can strengthen financial security against unforeseen economic uncertainty.

Speaking at the webinar, Head of Business Development, Olusola Adekunle, explained that AVCs provide contributors with an opportunity to supplement their statutory pension savings, thereby closing income gaps that often emerge when people leave the workforce.

Adekunle said: “Retirement does not have to mean a sharp drop in your quality of life. With AVCs, individuals can plan and secure an income that allows them to live in retirement as comfortably as they did when actively employed. As I often tell people, what your salary could not do for you while in active service, your pension will not magically fix in retirement. But you can change the outcome by choosing to make AVCs today.”

Also speaking, the Head of Benefit Administration, Ayodeji Ayo-Majaro, noted that the recent reforms by the National Pension Commission (PenCom) have made AVCs more attractive, including provisions that allow contributors to withdraw up to 50 per cent of their AVC balance after one year. He added that contributors who leave their AVCs untouched for at least five years enjoy tax exemptions on both the principal and returns.

“Retirement planning is not just about putting money aside, it is about preserving your quality of life. Additional Voluntary Contributions give workers the flexibility to build up extra savings during their active years so that retirement does not come with a financial shock.

“The scheme also benefits from attractive features such as tax exemptions and partial withdrawals, which make it easier for contributors to align their pension savings with personal goals. Whether you are a salary earner, self-employed, or even in contract work, AVCs offer a pathway to retire with dignity and peace of mind,” he said.

Beyond individuals in formal employment, the firm emphasised that the pension industry has widened its reach to small businesses and self-employed workers through the Micro Pension Plan, which enables artisans, traders, and entrepreneurs to build retirement savings in a flexible manner tailored to their irregular income patterns.

The virtual seminar was highly interactive with participants noting the clarity of responses provided to their questions, reflecting Access ARM Pensions’ effort to strengthen engagement with its clients.

Troops Kill 12 Terrorists, Recover Weapons in North-east

The Nigerian Army yesterday said that troops of Operation Hadin Kai, in collaboration with the Air Component and local security outfits, eliminated 12 Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents during long-range offensive operations.

The troops, the Service said, also cleared Tamsu Ngamdu, Dalakaleri, and Gaza of terrorist activities during the offensive.

A statement by the Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, said: “Significantly, upon arrival at a suspected terrorist location at Loskori Kura, troops made contact, during which 12 insurgents were neutralised after a heavy gun duel.

Troops recovered eight AK-47 rifles and eight AK-47 magazines fully loaded with 7.62mm rounds of ammunition. An assorted cache of drugs and medical supplies used by the terrorists was also recovered by the resilient and dogged troops.”

While urging the Theatre Command to sustain the onslaught, the military authorities commended the troops for their renewed vigour.

PFN Group: Christians Should Produce the Next Osun Gov

An arm of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), the Directorate of Politics and Governance (DPG), Osun State Chapter has noted that for justice and fairness, the Christian community in the state should produce the next governor. 

Besides, the group denounced what it termed a wrong statistics being bandied around that Muslims in the state are 67 per cent, saying  that correct data showed that Christian population  to be  47 per cent, Muslims 43 per cent and others 10 per cent. 

According to a statement signed  by the State DPG’s Director, Rev. Isaac Alamu and the Secretary, Rev Walter Aworanti, these were parts of the resolution of the group after a one-day seminar held in Osogbo, the state capital by DPG state executives and its representatives from all the 30 local governments in the state and the area office.

 The PFN group noted that out of the seven civilian governors that had ruled the state, only one of them, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola was a Christian. 

They listed the names of the Muslim governors as Senator Isiaka Adeleke, Chief Abdulkareem Adebisi Akande, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Alhaji Isiaka Oyetola and Senator  Ademola Adeleke. 

They noted that by the time  the current governor will be completing his tenure in 2026, Muslim governors would have spent 22 years compared to seven years spent by Oyinlola. 

The group also frowned on the federal government over the appointments of principal officers for the two new federal universities in the state. 

The statement read: “At the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Akem Lasisi, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Monsur Adeleke and the Registrar, Mr. Kassim Kayode Babawale are Muslims”

“At the Federal University of Agriculture and Development, Iragbiji, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Atayese Muftau, the Registrar, Mr. Afolabi Tunde Muritala, the Bursar, Mr. Akem Adeniyi and the Librarian, Mr. Wasiu Olayide Lawal are all Muslims. 

“These universities are not Islamic institutions but schools being funded by our commonwealth and one expects the President, Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister, Dr. Moruf Tunji Alausa to be sensitive of the state secularism when making appointments as these” the statement added. 

The group promised its support for all Christians who intend to partake in politics no matter the political party they belong. 

Also speaking during the one-day event, the State Chairman of PFN, Prophet Isaiah Adelowokan, who was represented by Bishop Adesola Olubadejo and the two resource persons,  Segun Durotolu, a former Ila Local Government Chairman and Bishop Seun Adeoye, a one-time chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the state admonished Christians to be fully involved in politics, while noting that doing so will help bring sanity to governance.
