Some of the United Kingdom’s most prestigious boarding schools are set to storm Lagos and Abuja this September as part of an exclusive education showcase aimed at Nigerian families seeking world-class secondary education for their children.
Tagged ‘UK Boarding Schools Week,’ the event will feature representatives from 10 elite British independent schools who will engage directly with parents and prospective students through a series of receptions and exhibitions in Nigeria’s commercial and political capitals.
The Business Manager at Mark Brooks Education, Ana Beck, in a statement on Monday, said the programme offers families “a unique chance to meet face-to-face with representatives from some of Britain’s leading independent schools”.
The interested students, according to the statement, would “ask questions about academics, boarding life, pastoral care and scholarships, and gain tailored advice to match their children’s ambitions”.
The statement explained that the Lagos leg would kick off with a private reception on Friday, September 19, followed by an exhibition on Saturday, September 20 at The George Hotel, Ikoyi.
The delegation will then move to Abuja for a concluding reception and exhibition at the Transcorp Hilton on Monday, September 22.
Participating schools include Cardiff Sixth Form College, Cheltenham College, Concord College, Culford School, Kingswood School, Lancing College, LVS Ascot, Monkton Combe School, and Roedean School, all known for delivering exceptional academic outcomes and holistic development.
The statement read: “UK boarding schools offer not only academic excellence but a transformative environment where young people develop resilience, global perspective, and lifelong friendships.”
Beck added that many of the schools offer scholarships for outstanding candidates.
The statement further explained that Mark Brooks, who has advised Nigerian families for over 17 years, highlighted the strong alignment between the values of Nigerian students and British boarding schools:
“What truly impresses me about Nigerian students is their remarkable resilience, ambition and adaptability, qualities that align beautifully with the ethos of UK boarding schools,” he said.
Each school offers distinct advantages. Cardiff Sixth Form College, for instance, is renowned for its academic intensity and top university placement rates.
The statement added that the Principal, Tom Arrand, described it as “a school for the hard-working and diligent student who wants to excel and broaden their academic horizons”.
Also, Cheltenham College appeals to families seeking a blend of tradition and modern educational practices, while Kingswood School, established in 1748, offers a spiritually grounded co-educational experience.
Lancing College is praised for its transparent and inclusive ethos, and Roedean School, with its dramatic cliff-top location, provides a nurturing yet academically rigorous environment for young women.
The UK Boarding Schools Week is organised by Mark Brooks Education, a specialist consultancy that connects international families with Britain’s leading schools.
The event is free to attend but requires advance registration.

The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia has lifted the suspension earlier placed on three public office holders in the state, following the reversed decision of the state House of Assembly.
DAILY POST recalls that the governor had upheld the resolution of the assembly to suspend Maxwell Ogiri, Executive Chairman, Otukpo Local Government Area, Grace Adagba, Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB and Mr Michael Uper, the Executive Secretary, Benue State Lottery Commission.
However, following the recent leadership changes in the assembly, the lawmakers reversed the decision, urging the governor to lift the suspension.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the governor said he has acknowledged the latest decision of the assembly
“In compliance with the resolutions of the House, His Excellency hereby directs the immediate reinstatement of the affected officials.
“He reaffirms his respect for the constitutional roles of the legislature and reiterates his administration’s resolve to continue working harmoniously with all arms of government in the collective pursuit of peace, progress, and good governance in Benue State.
“He charges the reinstated officers to rededicate themselves to their duties, uphold the highest standards of accountability, and work diligently in the interest of the people.
“He appreciates the understanding and support of the people of Benue State and assures them of his continued commitment to building a transparent, responsive, and people-centered administration”, the statement added.

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in Kaduna has described the assertion by former governor, Nasir El-Rufai that Christians constitute less than 25% of the state’s population as blatant falsehood, contradicted by verifiable data from the Nigerian National Population Commission.
The CAN state chairman, Rev Caleb Ma’aji Bawa on Monday, in a statement refuted the claims which he described as a reprehensible and unfounded allegations made during his appearance on the Politics Today program on Channels TV.
He said, “As the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Kaduna State Chapter, I am outraged by Mr El-Rufai’s claims, which are not only a gross misrepresentation of facts but also a manifestation of deep-seated animosity towards the Christian community in Kaduna State.”
The chairman further explained that the former governor’s claim that Christian leaders in Kaduna State receive $20,000 for medical trips overseas is “a fabrication designed to malign and discredit the Christian community”.
According to him, “We take umbrage with Mr. El-Rufai’s disparaging remarks, which insult the dignity and integrity of the Christian community in Kaduna State. His comments betray a lack of respect and understanding for the significant contributions Christians have made to the state’s development.”
He said the Christian community in the state demands an unequivocal apology from Mr El-Rufai for his malicious statements, saying that they expect him to retract his claims and demonstrate a commitment to promoting interfaith harmony and understanding in Kaduna State.

A youth group under the banner of Concerned Plateau Youths Council, CPYC, has warned various Fulani groups and the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, against making inciting statements capable of further fueling crisis in the state.
The CPYC, in a statement issued on Monday and jointly signed by its President, Kendrick Lawen and Secretary General, Dung Luka, said the spate of baseless allegations by Fulani groups, who alter narratives to appear like victims when they are actually the aggressors in violent clashes across the state smacks on nothing but hypocrisy.
“It is quite worrisome that various Fulani groups will come out to claim innocence whenever their militias attack our communities.
“We wonder what they stand to gain by playing the victim card when we all know that they are perpetrators of these crimes against humanity, invading communities, killing innocent people including women and children, sacking and taking over villages and in the end, still claim they are the victims,” the group said in the statement made available to DAILY POST.
The CPYC also frowned at a recent statement by MACBAN where the body accused the Berom tribe of harbouring ethnic militias whose mandate is to track down Fulani herdsmen and systematically eliminate them.
“Any discerning person will quickly decipher that the statement and allegations were just a smokescreen by the respected body but for what purpose and intent?
“We want to caution MACBAN, and other Fulani groups to refrain from making such statements capable of fueling further crisis in Plateau State as well as set their people against ours. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH,” the CPYC said.
