Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has approved the immediate implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, CONMESS, and Consolidated Health Salary Structure, CONHESS, for health workers in the state civil service.

The approval was conveyed through a statement signed by the Head of Service, Alhaji Tonga Betara Bularafa, directing that the new salary tables for health personnel take effect from 17th August 2025.

According to the statement, the implementation covers medical doctors, nurses and allied health professionals under government payroll.

The development is expected to motivate workers to put in their best, reduce brain drain, and ensure the people of Yobe State access quality healthcare services.

Reacting to the development, the Focal Person Digital and Strategic Communications to Yobe State Government, Yusuf Ali, commended Governor Buni for the decision, describing it as a bold and step aimed at enhancing the livelihood of health workers and improving service delivery across Yobe hospitals and primary healthcare facilities.

“By this gesture, Governor Mai Mala Buni has once again reaffirmed his reputation as a leader who listens, cares, and acts in the interest of his people,” Ali said.

With key examination bodies in Nigeria, including WAEC and JAMB, set to fully digitalize their exams from 2026, education experts and stakeholders have thrown their weight behind the move but urged improvements in infrastructure, justice and connectivity.

They spoke during an inaugural webinar on Thursday themed ‘Connectivity and the Cost/Integrity of National Examinations in Nigeria’, organized by Nigerian NGOs, DIniti8tive and Quality Education Development Associates, QEDA.

Delivering the keynote address, former aviation minister, Barrister Osita Chidoka, said the future of education rests on the ongoing digital revolution and urged government to strengthen computer-based testing, CBT.

He noted that glitches in CBTs, banks, and other digital platforms should not discourage authorities, stressing that “the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages”.

Chidoka also called on telecom companies to boost signal strength, while exam bodies should provide offline facilities for candidates in case of network failures.

“The culture of digitalization must take root in national examinations.

“Challenges will remain, but we cannot retreat from building digital infrastructure,” he said, adding that rural areas must also be covered to avoid excluding underprivileged children,” he said.

Constitutional lawyer Evans Ufeli argued for a phased approach, suggesting a 10-year transition period to allow for sensitization and infrastructure development.

WAEC official Audu Emmanuel disclosed that the body has already distributed servers to almost all exam centers nationwide after successful pilot tests. He said lessons from past glitches have improved WAEC’s preparedness.

Also speaking, Dr. Nurudeen Lawal of QEDA revealed that 1.9 million Nigerian children have been registered for the 2026 CBT, stressing the need for government support and teacher sensitization.

He added that reliable power supply, solar, and inverters must accompany digitalization efforts.

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has faulted President Bola Tinubu’s claims of record-breaking revenue growth, describing them as misleading and disconnected from the realities Nigerians face.

In a statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the government’s narrative of achieving N20.59 trillion in revenue between January and August 2025 does not align with the N41.81 trillion projected in the 2025 budget.

According to the ADC, the figures being celebrated by the Federal Government are “unrealistic” and “propaganda,” since only 52.68% of statutory revenue and 15% of VAT accrue to the Federal Government.

The party also criticised Tinubu’s comments on the naira exchange rate, saying his claim that the dollar traded at N1,900 when he assumed office was “patently false.” It said the official rate on May 29, 2023, was about N460.72, while the parallel market rate was between N700 and N800.

On borrowing, the ADC accused the government of being dishonest, noting that the Debt Management Office recently raised N136.16 billion through bond auctions, while the National Assembly approved a $21 billion loan in July, pushing the national debt to $120 billion.

The party further condemned the recently introduced 5% petrol tax and the 300% hike in the cost of obtaining a Nigerian passport, describing both measures as “cruel and insensitive”.

“The Tinubu administration is taxing the very survival of the people, monetising hardship, and celebrating suffering as success,” the statement read.

The ADC maintained that instead of alleviating poverty, government policies have worsened the plight of Nigerians, leaving the country as the “poverty capital of the world”.

The Defence Headquarters has ordered protesting retired soldiers to immediately vacate the Federal Ministry of Finance Headquarters in Abuja.

DAILY POST reports that a large number of retired soldiers who voluntarily exited the Nigerian Army in 2024 had stormed the ministry to protest what they described as the government’s failure to pay their entitlements.

They accused the Nigerian government of neglecting them for too long.

However, reacting to the protest, the Director, Defence Media Operations, Markus Kanye, directed that the aggrieved former soldiers should vacate the ministry’s premises with immediate effect.

According to him, the actions of the protesting soldiers are “seriously affecting the smooth conduct of activities at the Ministry of Finance”.

“While the Defence Headquarters acknowledges the right to legitimate protest, the veterans are strongly advised to tread with caution and vacate the premises of the Federal Ministry of Finance to allow government functions to continue seamlessly.

“This is the message we have been directed to pass on, so that through your medium, our veterans and the Nigerian public can be properly informed.

“Let me reaffirm that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remain fully committed to their constitutional mandate of defending the territorial integrity of our great nation, supporting civil authorities in maintaining internal security, and ensuring peace and stability across all regions,” Kangye added.
