The Chief of the Air Staff, CAS, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, has charged 30 newly graduated helicopter pilots of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to rise to the demands of modern warfare by embracing continuous learning, teamwork, and the highest standards of professionalism.

Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force, in a statement, said CAS, represented by the Chief of Training and Operations, Air Vice Marshal Edosa, gave the charge during the Combined Graduation Ceremony of the Integrated Helicopter Pilot Course 9/2024 and Airline Transport Pilot Licence Course 2/2025 held on 30 July 2025 at the International Helicopter Flying School (IHFS), Enugu.

Air Marshal Abubakar congratulated the pilots for their achievement, reminding them that they have commenced a special journey.

“You are stepping into a dynamic and complex operational environment,” he said. “The threats to our national security are multifaceted and constantly evolving. Your success will depend not only on the flying skills you have acquired but on your ability to adapt, collaborate, and operate as part of a coordinated joint force.”

He called on the new pilots to wear their wings with humility and a deep sense of responsibility, stressing that they carry the hopes of a nation and the trust of a service that remains a pillar of peace and stability.

The graduation also marked a significant milestone for IHFS with the commissioning of its newly renovated aircraft hangar, a critical infrastructure upgrade aimed at improving maintenance capabilities and operational readiness.

The CAS emphasized that the hangar was one of several ongoing projects, including a new school headquarters and 36 units of student accommodation, which demonstrate the NAF’s commitment to transforming IHFS into a global standard for helicopter training.

“The Nigerian Air Force is not only training pilots,” he stated, “we are building a self-reliant, mission-oriented, and resilient force capable of meeting the airpower demands of today’s battle space.”

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday announced the appointment a new Pro-Chancellor, governing council members, and principal officers of the Federal University of Environment and Technology, Koroma/Saakpenwa, Ogoni in Rivers State.

The appointment was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu’s media aide.

While Prof. Don Mon Baridam, from the South-South, is to serve as the pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Chinedu Mmom, also from the same geo-political zone is to serve as the vice-Chancellor.

Baridam, a professor of Management with a specialisation in Organizational Behaviour, previously taught at the University of Port Harcourt in Rivers State.

Meanwhile, Mmom, a professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management at the University of Port Harcourt, was also a former commissioner for education in the state.

The appointed Governing Council, according to Onanuga, comprised a diverse team, with members from different regions of the country.

They are Mr. Emmanuel Onoja from North Central, Mr. Hamid Adekunle from South West, Prof. Chima Oji from South East and Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji Lamda from North West.

President Tinubu appointed a team of professionals to play key roles at the university.

Dr. Mpigi Monday Douglas from the South South will be the Registrar, Zoryii Josco Nwaimanie from the North Central will take on the role of Bursar, and Dr. Saghanen Ntogo G. B. from the South South will be the Librarian.

The new University will admit its first cohort of students in September 2025. President Tinubu signed the bill establishing the University into law on February 3, 2025.
