The Yobe State University Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has suspended its Industrial Strike Action embarked upon on July 11, 2025.
The Chairman of the branch, Ahmed Karage, made this announcement in a statement on Tuesday.

Karage stated that the union has reached a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with the Yobe State Government to address the other remaining demands.

“Following the Memoranda of Understanding, the President of ASUU has granted approval to call off the strike action,” the statement read.

It, therefore, urged members of the branch to resume work with immediate effect.

DAILY POST reports that the union had declared an indefinite strike, asking the State Government to implement the N70,000 minimum wage of 2024 consequential adjustment.

It also demanded appropriate promotion placements and pay arrears of the minimum wage of 2019 consequential adjustment.

The union listed other demands to include payment of a thirty-five percent and twenty-five percent salary award, consequential adjustment from January 2023 to date, postgraduate facilitation allowances for staff, among others.
“After several months of engagements, formal communications, and appeals to relevant government authorities, we regret to inform you that the academic staff under the umbrella of ASUU has been compelled to embark on indefinite industrial action due to the government’s failure to meet our demands presented,” it had said.

The Ogun state government on Tuesday, warned cattle owners and herders against open grazing in the state saying, violators would bag 3-year jail time and lose their cattle.

The warning was made in a statement by signed by Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the Governor, Kayode Akinmade.

Akinmade lamented the rising practice, stressing that they also cause obstruction of traffic, invasion of people’s farmlands, and destruction of crops across this state.

According to the statement, the Animal Grazing Regulation and Cattle Ranch Establishment Bill 2020, signed into law by Governor Dapo Abiodun in 2021, was still in place, adding that violators risk severe consequences.

DAILY POST reports that the law banning open grazing and prescribing a three-year jail term for violators was passed to address incessant bloody encounters between herders and farmers.

The statement reads : “This is a violation of existing law and will not be tolerated a minute longer. For the avoidance of doubt, the Animal Grazing Regulation and Cattle Ranch Establishment Law prescribes a jail term of not less than three years without the option of fine, including the forfeiture of the herds of cattle or livestock under his/her control to the State Government for anyone who rears, herds, or grazes any livestock in any part of the State except within the permitted ranches, or anyone who rears cattle or livestock outside the permitted ranches after the commencement of the law.

“That is the law, and it will continue to be enforced with vigour. While cattle owners and herders are free to operate in any part of Ogun State, in line with the provisions of the law, no one has the right to impede the free flow of traffic, encroach on lands belonging to other people, or foment trouble of any kind under the guise of cattle grazing.

“Open grazing of cattle or other animals remains prohibited in Ogun State; anyone caught violating the law will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent allowed by law” the statement concluded.

Indigenes of villages in Kanam local government area of Plateau have decried the incessant attacks by bandits, saying it has hindered their ability to access and cultivate their farm lands.

The farmers said there was no way any of them could gain access to their farmlands this year to cultivate crops following the persistent attacks by terrorists who are now making life unbearable for them.

They lamented the fear of being kidnapped or killed while going to the farmers, saying that farming and rearing of animals were their only sources of livelihood, but that the bandits have disrupted their legitimate means of livelihood.

A resident of Gyangyen village said, “Bandits are not allowing us to go to the farms. If you go to the farm, you will be kidnapped and we don’t have the capacity to pay ransom. That is why we are avoiding our farm. They follow us to the house to kidnap us for ransom. What about if you go too far? Those who go to the farm are more vulnerable,”

Another resident said they neither go to the farms nor rear animals anymore because their animals are rustled by the bandits.

The farmers called on the government to come to their aid to enable them gain access to their farmlands and also embark on other meaningful activities that will enhance their standards of living.

Some of the villages affected according to the farmers include “Garga, Dadin Kowa, Gada, Keram, Gyanbahu, Dungur, Wanka, Kukawa, Shuwaka.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the group, Bashir Dalhatu, stated this at a high-level interactive session between Northern civil society groups and senior officials of the federal government in Kaduna.

DAILY POST reports that the event was organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation.

Dalhatu recalled the region’s strong electoral support for President Tinubu, contributing over 64% of his total votes in the 2023 presidential election.

“Despite our support and goodwill, the feeling in the North is, to put it mildly, completely mixed. Key infrastructural projects, budgetary allocations, appointments, and policy decisions have largely sidelined Northern Nigeria,” Dalhatu said.

He cited critical areas of neglect, including insecurity, agriculture, transport infrastructure, power supply, education, healthcare, and the abandonment of strategic projects like the Ajaokuta Steel Plant and Kolmani oil exploration.

Speaking on insecurity, Dalhatu lamented the rising wave of terrorism, banditry, and kidnappings, urging the President to take strong, audacious and sustained action, especially by addressing root causes like youth unemployment and poverty.

Weighing in on agriculture, the ACF chair explained that the sector received less than 5% of the national budget in the past two years, far below the FAO’s recommended 25%.

He warned that the government’s decision to approve duty-free food imports had triggered a collapse of local agro-industrial businesses, particularly rice mills.

CAC issues 90-day ultimatum to 100,000 companies over non-compliance

The Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, has issued a 90-day deadline to 100,000 companies to regularise their status or risk being delisted from its register. The Commission said the affected companies have either remained inactive for at least ten years or failed to meet key regulatory obligations under the Companies and Allied Matters Act, CAMA, 2020.

The Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, has issued a 90-day deadline to 100,000 companies to regularise their status or risk being delisted from its register.

The Commission said the affected companies have either remained inactive for at least ten years or failed to meet key regulatory obligations under the Companies and Allied Matters Act, CAMA, 2020.

CAC also in the notice to the affected companies said they failed to file their annual returns and in disclosure of Persons with Significant Control, PSC.

According to the commission, the move is part of efforts to clean up the corporate registry, improve compliance, and align with international standards on anti-money laundering and corporate transparency.

CAC further advised the affected companies to file all outstanding annual returns and, where necessary, send activation emails to to CAC website within the 90-day grace period.
