Paul Ibe, Media Adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has tackled the Presidency for defending the $100,000 reward package given to the Super Falcons following their victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, in Morocco.

Ibe said the comparison to the N150 million prize for the winner of BBNaija was misplaced.

DAILY POST reported that Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, had questioned why some Nigerians were unappreciative of President Bola Tinubu’s rewards to the Super Falcons.

The presidential spokesman expressed surprise at the criticism from some Nigerians over the presidential rewards, questioning why the gesture was being met with disapproval.

Onanuga in a post on his X handle on Tuesday drew a comparison with the BBNaija reality show, pointing out that its winner receives a N150 million grand prize.

However, in a post on his X handle on Wednesday, Ibe explained that Multichoice, owner of BBNaija, was spending private money generated from its business operations.

He wrote: “Dear @aonanuga1956,
I believe that the Super Falcons and indeed any other team or individuals who have made Nigeria proud deserve to be rewarded. That’s a no-brainer.

“However, the comparison to Multichoice paying N150 million to winners of BBNaija is misplaced. Multichoice is spending private money generated from its business operations while Tinubu is spending from our commonwealth. Even the fish that lives inside of bodies of water does not consume water with reckless abandon.”

DAILY POST reported President Bola Tinubu offered each player a cash reward of $100,000 and each coach and support staff member $50,000.

Tinubu also conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger, OON, on all 24 players and 11 technical crew members.

Additionally, each member of the team will receive a three-bedroom apartment under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Housing Scheme.

His death was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by Mukhtar Gidado, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Bala Mohammed.

According to the statement, Alhaji Hardawa died on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in Abuja after a brief illness.

The statement described the late BASIEC chairman as a “distinguished statesman, an accomplished public servant, and a patriotic Nigerian,” who left a legacy of integrity and fairness throughout his career, including during his time as a former Resident Electoral Commissioner in Taraba and Nasarawa States.

Governor Bala Mohammed described Hardawa as a man of “wisdom, humility, and exemplary leadership,” whose commitment to credible electoral processes helped strengthen democratic governance at the grassroots.

Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, has reunited 35 rescued kidnap victims from the state with their families.

The rescued kidnap victims consist of 16 women and 19 children from Kagara, Tegina and Agwara areas of the state.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Investigation, Ibrahim Adamu, speaking at a brief handing over ceremony, said the victims were released after spending few weeks in police protective custody.

The CP, who handed the rescued victims to the chairman of Rafi Local Government Area, Ayuba Usman Katako, noted, “The victims will be reunited with their families as they have been under police protective custody with necessary support and care from the state government.

“Series of counselling and deradicalization processes were given to them, with foods and bedding. And having gotten the necessary clearance, the victims are hereby handed over to the council chairman and relatives.”

Elleman further explained how the victims were rescued.

“Police operatives swung into action and the first batch was intercepted in Agwara during an attempt to cross the river to other villages of New-Bussa, and five women and six children were rescued.

“During interrogation, it was stated that bandits were relocating from Birnin-Gwari to other areas and the police tactical team stationed at Mekujeri-Tegina road intercepted the second batch with four women and seven children, while another batch was also intercepted with a driver transporting them away.”

The CP appealed to members of the public to give actionable information to the police whenever issues are observed for quick intervention.

The Director of Environmental Protection, Control, and Safety, Sha’aya’u Jibrin delivered the warning during an assessment tour of a mining site in Zainabi village in Doguwa Local Government Area.

According to a statement by the ministry’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Adamu Ibrahim Dabo, Jibrin expressed concern over the environmental damage caused by artisanal miners operating near residential areas. He ordered local miners to halt further encroachment and begin land reclamation by refilling excavated areas with suitable soil.

Jibrin explained that the move was aimed at restoring the environment and allowing locals to plant economic trees, which would provide long-term benefits beyond mining.
