Two men were lynched by an angry mob on April 6, 2025, in Katsayal Village, Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State, in a tragic case of mistaken identity.

The victims, identified as Gaddafi Isah, 35, and Badamasi Isah, 30, had driven their father’s vehicle to the outskirts of Katsayal Village for driving practice.

However, residents from nearby Yakawada Village suspected the men of livestock theft and raised an alarm.

Eyewitnesses told Zagazola Makama that the mob quickly descended on the men, beating them severely and inflicting fatal injuries before security forces could intervene.

The victims were rescued and rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Sandamu, where they were later confirmed dead by medical personnel.

The vehicle they were using was also vandalized during the assault.

Police authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident and are working to identify and arrest those responsible for the mob action.

The governor expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the wider community affected by the violence.

Speaking during the visit, Governor Idris expressed his administration’s commitment to ending insecurity across the state.

As part of the state’s immediate response, he announced the release of ₦50 million in financial support to the bereaved families and others affected by the attack.

He stated that the gesture was intended to ease the burden of grief and assist families in beginning the recovery process.

Governor Idris also commended Abdulrahman Usman Zagga, Director of Security Services in Kebbi State, for his coordination efforts and collaboration with security agencies in maintaining order and protecting lives and property.

He further appealed to the Emir of Argungu, His Royal Highness Alhaji Samaila Muhammad Mera, to intensify community sensitization on security matters.

European Union ministers on Monday agreed that the bloc should prioritise negotiations to remove tariffs imposed by the US President Donald Trump over retaliation even as it prepared a first set of targeted countermeasures.

Recall that the 27-nation bloc faces 25% import tariffs on steel and aluminum and cars and reciprocal tariffs of 20% from Wednesday, for almost all other goods under Trump’s policy to hit countries he says impose high barriers to U.S. imports.

DAILY POST reports that ministers spearheading trade met in Luxembourg on Monday to debate the EU’s response, as well as discuss relations with China.

According to French Trade Minister, Laurent Saint-Martin, there should be no taboos, including the EU’s Anti-Coercion Instrument, ACI, which would allow it to target U.S. services or to limit US companies’ access to public procurement tenders in the EU.

“We cannot exclude any options on goods or services and, however,we approach it, open the box to the European tool which is very comprehensive and which can be extremely aggressive,” he said.

A tragic incident unfolded on the evening of Saturday, along the Bwari-Dutse Road in Abuja, where a shooting linked to a VIP convoy claimed the life of a bystander and left several others injured.

According to intelligence sources available to Zagazola Makama, the chaos began after a Daf Trailer Truck reportedly lost its brakes and rammed into five tricycles around 6:50 p.m., resulting in a deadly crash. Eight people were injured in the accident, and two later died from their injuries at Kubwa General Hospital.

As emergency responders and commuters grappled with the aftermath of the crash, a VIP convoy approached the gridlocked scene. Eyewitnesses reported that security personnel in the convoy began firing shots into the air, apparently in an attempt to clear the road.

Amid the confusion, a stray bullet hit Timothy John, a passerby from Dutse Baupma, in the chest.

He was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has assured that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is being built to endure flooding and climate-related challenges for the next 50 years.

Speaking during a stakeholder engagement on Section 2 of the project on Sunday in Lagos, Umahi said the design incorporates features that will make the highway resilient and long-lasting.

“We will make sure that our pavement level is going to counter any climate change,” the minister stated, noting that the pavement height would match the first-floor level of many surrounding buildings.

Umahi added that retaining boards are already under construction to secure the road structure, while cable ducts have been included in the design to prevent utility companies from tampering with the pavement.

“MTN, African Plus or any other network doesn’t have to cut the road. The cables are there, I saw them,” he said.

He also revealed that CCTV cameras will be installed throughout the highway to enable a response time of less than five minutes to any emergency.

“There would be trees all through on the road to make it exciting,” he added.

Umahi pointed to a major flyover under construction at the Dangote Refinery axis. The flyover includes a 60-metre span and a 41.6-metre counterbalance to accommodate heavy truck traffic, an infrastructure he described as a future tourist attraction.

The minister also disclosed plans to establish relief centres along the corridor, where travelers can access fuel stations, supermarkets, and medical facilities.

Umahi expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their support, commending those who attended the engagement out of genuine interest in national development.

President Donald Trump of the United States has called on the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates as the markets continue to tumble, saying there is no inflation.

DAILY POST reports that the US Federal Reserve will hold its next Federal Open Market Committee, FOMC, meeting on May 6-7.

In a post on his Truth Social on Monday, Trump said the US was bringing billions of dollars a week.

“Oil prices are down, interest rates are down (the slow moving Fed should cut rates!), food prices are down, there is NO INFLATION, and the long-time abused USA is bringing in Billions of Dollars a week from the abusing countries on Tariffs that are already in place.”

“This is despite the fact that the biggest abuser of them all, China, whose markets are crashing, just raised its Tariffs by 34%, on top of its long term ridiculously high Tariffs (Plus!), not acknowledging my warning to abusing countries not to retaliate.

”They’ve made enough, for decades, taking advantage of the Good OL’ USA! Our past “leaders” are to blame for allowing this, and so much else, to happen to our Country,” he wrote.

DAILY POST reports that the US markets on Friday ended sharply lower as the Standard and Poor, S&P, 500 dropped 5.97 percent, Nasdaq composite slumped 5.82 percent and the Dow tumbled 5.50 percent.

Former Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers noted that the two day fall for the S&P was 10.5 percent.

Meanwhile, Federal Chair, Jerome Powell told a business journalists’ conference in Arlington, Virginia on Friday that Trump’s new tariffs are larger than expected, adding that the economic fallout including higher inflation and slower growth, likely will be as well.

“We face a highly uncertain outlook with elevated risks of both higher unemployment and higher inflation,” he said.
