A brutal bandit attack has been reported in early morning of Wednesday in Banga village, located in the Kurya Madaro District of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The attack left several villagers dead and others abducted.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, disclosed this in a post on his X handle on Wednesday.
Makama said that intelligence sources informed him that armed bandits stormed the village, opening fire and killing an unspecified number of residents at around 0130hrs.
The security expert stated that alongside the killings, the assailants abducted multiple villagers, whose identities are yet to be confirmed.
“Authorities are in the process of organizing a visit to the village to assess the full scale of the casualties and gather further information on the incident,” Makama added.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday inaugurated the board of the Nigerian Independent System Operator in line with the 2023 Electricity Act on the unbundling of the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
The inauguration took place at the presidential villa on Tuesday and was conducted by the Vice President, Kasim Shettima, with Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu in attendance.
The newly established NISO board is comprised of executive and non-executive board members.
Recall that Tinubu appointed Dr. Adesegun Olugbade to serve as NISO board chairman and Engr. Abdullahi Bello Mohammed as managing director or chief executive officer.
Other executive directors are Engineer Nafisatu Asabe Ali, ED Systems Operation, and Engineer Shehu Abba-Aliyu, ED Systems Planning, Dr. Edmund Eje, Executive Director of Market Operations, and Mr. Babajide Ibironke, ED of Finance and Corporate Services.
While Non-Executive Directors include Engineer Lamu Audu (Generation), Mrs. Folake Soetan (Distribution), Tajudeen Giwa-Osagie (Market Expert), and Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz (Transmission), and Alhaji Mahmuda Mamman, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Power (representative of the Ministry of Power).

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of advanced tactical assets to Plateau State following renewed violence in Bokkos Local Government Area that has claimed dozens of lives since March 28.
This directive, announced on Wednesday by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, comes in response to what he described as “a disturbing surge in brutal attacks and killings” across affected communities.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains fully committed to restoring peace and ensuring the safety of all residents in Plateau State,
“This decisive move reflects our resolve to bring the perpetrators of these heinous crimes to justice,” Adejobi stated.
The deployment includes highly trained personnel from the Police Mobile Force, Special Intervention Squad, aerial surveillance drones, armored carriers, and helicopters.
DIG Kwazhi Yakubu, the Deputy Inspector-General in charge of Operations, has been tasked with leading the intervention.
DIG Kwazhi, who arrived in Plateau State on April 8, paid a courtesy visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
During the visit, he conveyed the IGP’s condolences to the victims’ families and reaffirmed the police’s commitment to a “sustainable, long-term solution.”
The latest attacks, which began on March 28, saw armed assailants storm villages in Bokkos, killing several residents and injuring many more.
The violence has since continued in waves, leaving communities in fear and mourning.
This is not the first time Plateau has experienced such unrest.
In December 2023, over 150 people were killed in coordinated attacks across Bokkos and Barkin Ladi LGAs, drawing widespread condemnation and prompting military responses.
Adejobi urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing credible information, stating, “we need the cooperation of the people to succeed in this crucial operation.”

In a statement on Wednesday, Kim Yo referenced the meeting between the United States, Japan, and South Korea at the NATO foreign ministers’ meeting, and railed against them for condemning DPRK’s “exercise of its sovereign rights.”
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi, and Republic of Korea Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul met on April 3 in Brussels, Belgium, to strengthen trilateral cooperation.
The allies reasserted their commitment to DPRK’s complete denuclearization, expressed concerns over its increasing military cooperation with Russia, and emphasized the need to maintain sanctions regime against the nation.
In her reaction published by the Korean Central News Agency, Kim Yo declared that the “anachronistic ‘denuclearization’ idea of the U.S., Japan, and the ROK can never affect the position of our state.”
The politician said the countries exposed their “uneasiness” and “desperate plight”, even though they know that “denuclearization of us is nothing but a daydream that can never come true.”
Kim Yo noted that denuclearizing the DPRK is “utterly impossible and unrealistic in practice and conception,” saying its adversaries “are lost in the past daydream, revealing how absurd their level of political judgment is.”
She said the position of DPRK as a nuclear weapons state is established along with the existence of its strong nuclear deterrent and permanently fixed in its supreme and basic state law according to the unanimous will of its people.
“We don’t care about anyone’s denial and recognition and we never change our option,” the diplomat affirmed. “This is our steadfast choice that can never be reversed by any physical strength or sly artifice.”
Kim Yo stressed that DPRK’s nuclear forces not only play a key role in deterring aggression and defending the sovereignty and security of the nation but also ensure the regional and global balance of power and strategic security.
The top official said the only way for the U.S., Japan, and South Korea to defuse their concern is to completely refrain from the “unilateral attempt to change the status quo” and find a method to avoid head-on conflict.
“If the U.S. and its vassal forces continue to insist on anachronistic “denuclearization” while talking about “threat” from someone, it will only give unlimited justness and justification to the advance of the DPRK aspiring after the building of the strongest nuclear force for self-defence,” Kim Yo added.

The warning follows reports of recent lead poisoning in the Bugundu Local Government Area of Zamfara state.
The minister stressed that all mining activities remained suspended until the release of standard operating procedures to guide the resumption of exploration in the state.
He explained that the outbreak was evidence that traditional and local institutions had allowed illegal miners to operate in their areas, in flagrant violation of the ban on illegal mining.
He urged that every citizen should respect constituted authorities and regulations.
“However, where they demonstrate wilful negligence and abdicate their responsibilities, they perpetrate a state of anomie with dire consequences, as we are witnessing in this case,” he said.
As a solution, Alake said experts and ministry officials’ reports will recommend specific interventions enabling us to stave off future calamities, he stated.
“We must work together to kick out illegal miners from all corners to protect the lives of innocent citizens endangered by the desperation of a few individuals to make money at all costs,” he added.

Trump made this confirmation in his speech at a White House event on Wednesday.
According to him, his administration decided to raise tariffs on Chinese items to 104 percent in retaliation for the 100-125 percent tariff China slammed on US goods.
He noted that China and other countries have ripped off the US in the past.
“Right now China is paying a 104% tariff. It sounds ridiculous, but they charged us for many items 100-125%. Many countries have. They’ve ripped us off left and right. But now it’s our turn to do the rippin’g!” He declared.
Recall that on Tuesday, the White House had confirmed that a 104 percent tariff on Chinese goods would take effect at midnight.

A former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under the Adegboyega Oyetola administration, Adebayo Adeleke, has accused the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke of paralysing the local government system in the state.
He made this statement at a media parley organised by the Osun Online Publishers Association, OOPA, themed; “Digging into Politics, Governance and Dividends”, on Tuesday in Osogbo.
Adeleke, while answering questions on the local government autonomy, stated that it has come to stay in Nigeria.
He said, “During my time as Commissioner for local government and Chieftaincy affairs, under the last administration, former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola never touched local government allocations but the reverse is the case now.
“This Government is spending the local government allocations and depriving the grassroots of growth and development.
“That is why the Governor is blocking the reinstatement of the All Progressives Congress local government chairmen from resuming at the councils secretariat/offices.”
He also accused the governor of manipulating the recently concluded local government elections conducted in the state, adding that Governor Adeleke cannot support autonomy since he was among state governors that has approached the court over the matter.
“Governor Adeleke is against local government autonomy, that is the reason he did a kangaroo illegal and manipulated elections for the local government.
“Osun State is one of the states in the federation the governor is illegally withholding funds for local governments in their jurisdiction in contravention of Section 7 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
“Governor Adeleke was part of the State Governors who took the Presidency to court over local government autonomy,” he claimed.
The former commissioner also accused the Adeleke-led administration of gross financial mismanagement, citing the sudden jump in the Ministry of Youth and Sports budget from N2 billion in 2022 to N13 billion in 2023.
He also questioned the integrity of road projects like the Old Garage-Lameco Road.
“You are doing big roads to deceive Osun people. We did roads under Oyetola without any fanfare. Now they’re bringing in ex-leaders to commission uncompleted projects,” he said.
He noted that residents affected by demolition during road expansions, such as in Lameco and Ilesa, are still crying out for compensation despite assurances from the state government.
