Activist and convener of the #RevolutionNow Movement, Omoyele Sowore, has lashed out at Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State over what he described as a lack of performance on the part of the governor since succeeding the former governor of the state, late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

According to Sowore, who hails from Kiribo, Ese-Odo Local Government Area of the state, Aiyedatiwa had been running the state with propaganda with no meaningful achievement on the ground in the state.

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, disclosed that his younger brother, Allen Sowore, who is the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Strategic Media, is also part of those involved in the propaganda.

While expressing dismay over the situation of things in the state, Sowore, who spoke during an interview on a television station, maintained that the state deserved better.

“I have a very sad story to tell about my state, Ondo State. Before the current governor (Lucky Aiyedatiwa) came and won his last election or selection, we were the ones who fought the former governor (Oluwarotimi Akeredolu), who is now late, when his family tried to hijack power. The expectation was that the new governor, who was then the acting governor, would hit the ground running.

“The case we have now is that Ondo State is just in a state of motion without movement. There are over 55 police stations in Ondo State, I think, and most of them don’t even have patrol vehicles.

“The criminals in Ondo State are operating in places they know there are no access roads and it is very easy for criminals to get away since there is no way to pursue or stop them.

“What Ondo State needs to do is not what the governor is doing. We should not be discussing bursaries in 2025. Ondo State’s industry is education. Talking about a bursary as if you are doing anybody a favour. Ondo State should be offering free education, not a bursary.

Sowore further stressed that “I attended a community high school in my village, Kiribo. Go and ask how many teachers they have and who is paying them. I’m still paying teachers in Ondo State, in my secondary school.

“They have abandoned all the schools; there is nothing to be proud of. My younger brother is part of the propaganda going on in Ondo State. I’m surprised that they didn’t even bring my younger brother to come and meet me here.

“Tell yourselves the truth; you are not doing well. We cannot have an Ondo State where people are getting kidnapped during the daytime. There are no access roads; even when they try to do it, they do a little bit, and the rest is more propaganda. There is nobody who is going to eat propaganda in the state. “

US President, Donald Trump has expressed his confidence about a deal on TikTok.

There is a April 5 deadline for ByteDance to sell the video app or see it banned in the United States.

Trump revealed this while speaking to reporters onboard Air Force One.

“We have a lot of potential buyers. There’s tremendous interest in TikTok,” he said.

“We have a lot of people that want to buy TikTok.

“We’re dealing with China also on it, because they may have something to do with it,” he said, adding “I’d like to see TikTok remain alive.”

China on Thursday, rebuffed Trump’s suggestion that he might offer to reduce tariffs to get Beijing’s approval for the sale of TikTok to a non-Chinese firm.

Earlier this month, Trump claimed they were in talks with four groups who want to acquire the platform, which has 170 million American users.

A US law has ordered TikTok to divest from ByteDance due to concerns that China could exploit the app to spy on Americans or covertly influence US public opinion.

The law took effect on January 19, a day before Trump’s inauguration. But he quickly announced a delay that has allowed TikTok to continue to operate.

That delay is set to expire on April 5.

“There’ll be a deal with TikTok, I’m pretty certain,” Trump said when asked if he would extend the deadline if there was no deal.

Abia State government has announced that it has taken the surviving victims of Sunday’s auto crash involving joint security team, to the nearest hospital for best medical attention.

DAILY POST recalls that a patrol van carrying some members of the Abia State joint security team, Operation Crush, plunged into a ditch in a bush along Isieke, Umuahia North LGA on Sunday evening, resulting in the death of a member of the security team and injury to others.

Reacting to the incident, Governor Alex Otti sent his condolences to the leadership of the State Joint Security Command and the family of the dead officer.

Otti who described the incident as sad and unfortunate, regretted that life was lost.

“Governor Otti while condoling with the Joint Command and the family of the deceased Officer, assured that his government would ensure that the injured ones receive the best of medical attention to ensure they recuperate as quickly as possible”, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma said in a statement on Monday.

Quoting the Governor, Ekeoma noted that the joint security taskforce, Operation Crush, has been doing a wonderful job in securing the state against criminals, even as he said that necessary support would be given to the joint security team to ensure they sustained the tempo.

Ehie made the revelation when he appeared as a guest on Channels Television on Sunday, claiming that he has the evidence on his phone.

Speaking further, Ehie said Governor Siminalayi Fubara chose the path of conflict resolution in handling political disputes.

DAILY POST recalls that on the night of October 29, 2023, an explosion rocked the state Assembly complex.

The explosion brought to light, the deteriorating relationship between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.

On October 30, after the explosion, the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, and 26 other lawmakers loyal to Wike, suspended Ehie and three lawmakers loyal to Fubara, alleging that they were responsible for the explosion.

Amaewhule and the 26 lawmakers also proceeded to initiate an impeachment process against Governor Fubara, citing abuse of power and gross misconduct.

The process was, however, stalled after supporters of the suspended governor foiled their attempt.

Tinubu suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months, in addition to declaring a state of emergency due to the political crisis in the oil-rich state.

The move, however, was met with backlash.

Speaking on The Morning Brief, a programme on Channels Television on Monday, Momodu joined a long list of personalities across the country in criticizing the president’s decision.

“I think it is very unfortunate. I know President Tinubu very, very well. Though I’ve not been in the same party with him and all that, we were together in exile, and he fought gallantly for this democracy. So a lot of us, co-comrades at that time, are actually very embarrassed that we have a pro-democracy leader in government, and yet what we are witnessing is worse than dictatorship.

“I’m pleading with President Bola Tinubu: ‘Please don’t kill democracy in Nigeria.’ Everybody who loves him will tell him this. I’ve not asked him for anything, but we love him for his contributions to the movement in the past, which is now going down the drain,” Momodu said.

He also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of intimidating the opposition, warning Tinubu to be cautious.

“I’m saying it now openly to millions of Nigerians that people are deceiving President Tinubu, and he should not allow them to do so.

“He should just do his job. The only thing that can guarantee a second term is to do your job well. You do not need to intimidate anybody,” he added.

The Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, says the state will generate up to $2.5 billion annually from the circular economy when adequately harnessed.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed this in an interview with NAN in Lagos.

A circular economy is an economic system based on the reuse and regeneration of materials or products, especially as a means of continuing production in a sustainable or environmentally friendly way.

Gbadegesin said the authority was looking at an economic value of $2.5 billion from the circular economy annually when harnessed.

He said the initiative would require much advocacy and public sensitization to achieve the desired result.

He added that the era of the linear model of waste collection was over; hence, the need to apply the circular economy in waste management.

“We were used to applying the linear model of waste collection. Here, waste is collected, taken to a landfill, and then buried.

“Now, we are introducing the circular economy. All of that waste buried before now has value.

“The circular economy is a major initiative because we are talking about a radical transformation of the current system of transporting 13,000 tonnes of waste per day to a point.

“Ten thousand tonnes of that waste can be pushed into other uses in a circular economy,” Gbadegesin said.

He stressed the importance of waste sorting at the source to achieve the requirements of a circular economy.

“Ninety percent of our waste still has value if sorted. We must begin to sort at the source, which will require a lot of education and advocacy.

“We must be able to collect the sorted waste through community recycling centres, where people within that area can bring recyclable materials like PET bottles, paper, metal, and even food waste, where off-takers will receive them in exchange for incentives.

“The circular economy drive is a major undertaking. We are not doing this in isolation. We are working with sister agencies.

“We are so busy pushing this initiative that we do not have enough time to tell the stories of what we are doing,” he said.
